I shoot a 5D3, mostly with my Canon 24-70 2.8 II. I am considering a prime to use as a general walk-around lens rather than always taking the much larger/heavier 24-70. Would like to get feedback on the Canon 50 vs Sigma 50. (The Art is out if my budget and a bit larger than I want.) I'd also consider the 40 Pancake.

Any experiences or opinions are appreciated.

Wm.

I have the Nikon Sigma 35 1.4 Art and it is SUPERB.

As well for me,a Triumph". A GT6 +. Every second day something either broke, fell off or stopped working!

Super neat "tilt the whole front end foreward" style hood allowed you to see (and work on) the neat six cylinder engine. Real wood dash and lovely leather seating. Tight interior, flashy exterior and when I traded it to my mechanic friend for his ex racing 750 Honda motorcycle plus his Nikon rangefinder camera (my first "real" camera), it became a worthwhile deal!

Your actual photography will be based upon your experience.

The only things I will add are to make a list of key individuals and names (mother, grandmother, maid of honour etc) and learn to recognize them.

Next, make a list of REQUIRED shots so you don't forget to shoot them.

Scout the venue for vantage points, lighting at key times of day.
AND speak to the minister to know where you will be allowed to stand and whether you can use flash and when NOT to take picks.

Get lots of rest and enjoy.

See my list of currently owned cameras.

The more convenient the camera the more you will be willing to bring it along. i most often have the Sony a6000 with me.
The Oly EM1 is my second most likely.

Sony A6000!
I have the Olympus EM1 and it is great. But when I want to go light the Sony is the one I take!
Good optics? Great available optics!
Larger sensor than Olympus.
Super focusing.
Excellent viewfinder.

[quote=AzPicLady]I rode horses for years, but never carried a camera while doing so. Now I want to have my camera handy. It's a 1D Mk iV with a 28-300 lens attached - heavy! When I'm sitting on the saddle it bounces around, hitting the horn and really flops at even a trot. I worry about putting it in the saddle bags because they tend to flop a lot and I don't know what that will do to the electronics. Plus, I'd have to stop, open the bags, pull out the camera, etc. . . and by that time my shot will be gone.

Do you have a way of carrying a large camera so that it stays tight to your chest while riding that will withstand at least trotting and perhaps even cantering without banging?

If you are considering to resell Sigma lens be prepared to loose lot of money. No one wants to buy them used.

Quite true of the old stuff, but the new high performance lenses are another story. Also, i have the Sigma 10 year warrantee with my lens.

I might buy the 1.8 zoom for my D3200 soon.

So, phtt to your sour grapes.

Taken hand held with my Nikon D600. Using the Sigma "Art" 35mm F1.4. Rated higher than anything from Canon or Nikon or Zeiss at this focal length.
No lightly built lens, easily better made than the "Big 2", a little below the level of the Zeiss.

While not as warm as nikonians, these are what I have been using for the last 12 years. Good grip and if you need warmer use silk liners (motorcycle accessory).

I have about 6 bags, none of them are quite right for my intended use. Fire sale coming soon. What I'm looking for is a small slender pack, like one of the smaller "slings", but with two straps, a quick release for easy access. A separate lined pouch for a water bag, would be a nice feature.

I ride a bicycle/motorcycle and want to take along one camera, and perhaps a couple other items, like a phone, cleaning rag, lunch, maybe a couple filters, etc. I also hike and ski. I need a small light aerodynamic bag. Slings are pretty close but they sit sideways and they invariably shift when riding, which is not good. That's why I want two straps (backpack style).

Any suggestions?

Your post popped up just as I came across the Case Logic CPL-108 DSLR camera and iPad backpack on the Amazon site. Available for $66.55 from Camera Camera. I like it because it is a very simple compact bag without extra buckles and straps.
I have at LEAST 10 bags and am zeroing in on the simplest one for my EM - 1 and 2 additional lenses.
Cheers.

I know it's not always the answer but how about carrying less gear? try a one lens day, Bob.

Problem is -
1 - Stability. I have no feeling in my feet, so my balance is visual. If I look UP or though a viewfinder I start to go off balance.
2 - can't remember the name of the condition, but I can't walk much more than 1 block without needing to sit for a minute. Blood flow to the legs thingy.
3 - I have bought into the Olympus system and it IS helping for weight and size. As for small camera's I have the RX 100 II.
But can't walk much and NO broken ground.
