...and learning quickly, it would seem!
most warranties on photographic equipment are NOT transferable, even in the country of original purchase.
I like them both very much...they each evoke their own response. I would look after that previously mentioned spot in both of them if I saw fit to print them.
Could this be a North American Wood Duck, which is very similar in appearance to the Mandarin? If it is, it's within its range, although it should have headed south by now. Some migratory ducks will put off migrating as long as they can find open water and food...like mallards. In any event, this specimen, like the rest of us, seems to need saving from the busybodies. Perhaps the MNR could offer an opinion regarding the legality of live capture of ducks in the wild...especially if it is a Wood Duck, which is indigenous.
For what it's worth, my father was killed in WW II some 10 weeks before I was born. He was a P51 pilot in the R.C.A.F. He is buried in England and I have the photos of his funeral cortege and original wooden cross grave marker as well as the stone Commonwealth War Graves replacement headstone. I am grateful for those photos. I was able to go to England and visit that gravesite on Nov.7, 2011, the 68th anniversary of his death. Those photos were a major motivation in my finally making that pilgrimage. I very much wish I had gone sooner than I did. I received a measure of closure I didn't even realize I was missing. Never underestimate the power of a meaningful photograph!

Asking the Nikon 1 V2 to do the job of the D800 just isn't fair. :-)
I think the best way to autofocus the D800 for this sort of situation is using AF-C with single-point, and set it to "focus+release" priority for the shutter.
Point well taken regarding the V2. Having elevated sloth to an art form, I was trying to eliminate the "labour intensive" part. Hope does spring eternal and I am ever the optimist!

I am sure many of you will have an opinion on this. What settings and PP approaches do you use to get low noise images with a large depth-of-field in a low light environment, say, at a dinner party? People moving about etcÂ… so combining multiple shots is not an option. Oh and no flash.
I'm having much the same problem trying to shoot a recreational dart league 'in action'. The dart board is well illuminated, but not the 'shooters'. Flash is out of the question because of the distraction it would inflict upon the players. I tried with a Nikon 1 V2 with a f1.8 prime but was less than pleased with my results. Focus was invariably soft, although exposure was okay. Next I will try with my D800 with a "Nifty-Fifty f1.4" and see if the AF will do. May have to resort to a tripod and remote release and live view magnification in the mirror up. I've used that for moon shots with a Sigma 150/500 attached. Should be interesting but a little labour intensive!
I get the dreaded Err when I have inadvertently failed to set the lens aperture ring at its minimum.
I think the barn itself is first rate. The focus, colour and detail is really good. It does appear to be sliding downhill to the right though. I might try to straighten it a wee bit.

Thanks again. Have you had any leakage problems with your WG-1? I do a lot of snorkeling in my work and my company bought a couple Fujifilm Finepix cameras. After about 15 min in 1 ft of water I saw air bubbles coming from the camera and had to let the camera dry out for a day before it would work properly. I won't be buying a Fujifilm.
No, I've not had any leakage, but it has been restricted to pool use. No snorkelling or scuba. I'll have to check the manual, but I do recall that it was advised to have the seals checked every few years because they do dry out over time. I'm not sure what Pentax would charge to replace the seals.
Well, it is certainly not on a par with my D800 and it doesn't even match my Nikon 1 V2 but I don't think you'll find a P&S that will match a dSLR in I.Q. but for a camera at the ready when you don't have the big guns along, it suffices, at least it does for me. I don't bother trying to make prints larger than 8 x 10 with what this camera produces and I'm not disappointed too often.
Check out the Pentax Optio line. I have the WG-1 which is waterproof, crushproof, freeze proof and has a mode for taking underwater shots and an interesting macro mode. In addition to the on
board flash, it has an array of LED lights arranged around the lens. You can literally lay the camera down over a small subject and produce a very credible result. Amazing little P & S.
