Meives- Wow! What a wonderful offering of layman's terms!. I haven't posted in quite sometime- I mostly look daily at the beautiful photography you folks are able to create, but I had to acknowledge the amount of effort that went into your post. I will mark it and return to it when I have questions. Thanks.
Stunning photograph, Graham. I spent a week in Iona several years ago, quite a wonderful experience. Somehow I missed the head and the chalice. I can't figure how I could have missed it. Anyway, I love your photograph. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks Lib, I am pretty impressed with the Nexus 7
I really think you would like it. You can use apps for most of the e-book formats. You just have to remember which library to look in and there may be a way to search across libraries. I just haven't tried that yet. Good luck. Go to a Best Buy, Staples or whatever and look at them and compare in person.
Look up the reviews of the Nexus7 and Nexus 10 compared to the iPad. I have a Nexus 7 and love it. If you want to use for photography, it prob wont work as it does not have USB port or card slot. You can get free office apps and can print wirelessly. You can download apps for Nook, Kindle and other ebooks so you are not limited to the google store. Mine has 32G memory and the new ones have a slot for a SIM card. About half the price of an iPad and comparable in price to a Kindle fire , I believe.
Shop.usa.canon.com is advertizing a refurbished SX 40 for $275.16 - I believe that was thru the 27th.
Those settings i use for wildlife, the settings i use for Landscape are-Trypod, Aperture Priority, Center Weighted metering, ISO 100, f/14 to f/22 and camera will set its own shutter speed, try different f- stops, Have a look at some of my earlier posts, My visit to Scotland and Glen Coe, there are some landscapes :) :)[/quote]
Thanks for the settings- I will definitely try those out. I saw you landscapes of Scotland. Beautiful! When I was there I only had an olympus 3meg point and shoot. Would love to take my canon sx40 and do over. I seem to do better with the landscapes than the wildlife. But at least I get plenty of opportunity for the practice with the wildlife right here at home. But not the variety that you have shot. Thanks again. Lib

Thanks Fosgood11> Thanks for looking.
Thanks fosgood11. Appreciate you looking.
Thanks a lot- will try. I had on scene mode to take burst of shots of the deer who fled before I even got my camera up! I am trying to do more in manual- but don't get good periods of time to practice enough to remember what i am doing- but will set up as you suggest. My favorite subjects are wildlife and landscapes and of course grandchildren- tho they don't like to be subjects much anymore-17 and 22. Thanks for the recommendations. You have beautiful landscapes there to take advantage of. I just spent a few days in England, but have been to Scotland a couple of times. I fell in love with the polution free air in Iona. Thanks again. Lib

PS to tommyld- I just looked at some of your photos. I am exceedingly jealous. I. too. am an amateur, but don't get any shots of that quality. That term cover a wide range of skills! I'll keep at it. Maybe one day, What camera do you use?

Thanks tommyld. Good to hear from someone iin the UK. I been over several times, but never to Liverpool. Thanks for looking.
I walked outside this am to try to get a photo of a group of about 8 deer cavorting around the pond. They were too quick for me, but this guy- a red bellied woodpecker- I believe, flew over me and landed on the roof of my house. He stayed just long enough to have his picture made!

Been here many times, great shots.
Thanks Jeanbug35. I used to go often, but had not been in several years. Really enjoyed the area when it was not quit as busy a destination.
