Thinking of adding a DX camera to my birding equipment for the extra reach. Have been reading that the IQ is better than simply going to DX mode on an FX camera. Thinking of the D500, but it is 4 years old. Wondering if there are rumors of a Nikon replacement or upgrade pending. Giving the deals being offered I think maybe. Went to Nikon Rumors and could not get any info. Thoughts?

And when you finally do convert the profile to sRGB does the color change?

Gene51 and CHG Canon thanks much. Helpful and I will follow the links and learn more. This situation got worse because I am trying to make an Xmas card which I do every year. I do some basic editing in LR of the raw file and then Edit In PS for some punch. The image is a late evening shot of a tree in Hokkaido in falling snow. I shot handheld with flash and the original has a very blue sky. To upload to printer I need to send a jpg sRGB file. When I convert profile and save as jpg, or if I use the export as approach the blue sky looses its color and it almost looks gray.

Yes I can do that. Thanks. My problem is when I do it there is a dramatic color change.

Thanks Gene51. I understand editing in the larger space is better. My problem is when I convert to sRGB for exporting to web the colors change and get frayed out. I only shoot raw and use white balance auto* which warms it a bit. I thought if converting to sRGB first, even tho smaller space, I would not need to do it last and could edit to the color I want. But then if I also want to print the image I need to convert back. My real problem is I do not know where the ProPhoto color space is coming from. Is it LR or PS?

Since my last update PS/LR are defaulting to Prophoto color space. My cameras are set to AdobeRGB and I convert to SRGB when I export to print or the Web. Now before I export when I try to make that change, the drop down menu has already defaulted to Prophoto and when I change it changes the colors. All my blues get more magenta. Is there a way to define this when moving from LR to PS for final edits?

When LR updates it sometime creates an update for the .LRcat file as well as the other related files such as helper, preview. I am wondering it it is best practice to delete the old files. My LR Settings folder on my external drive is not a large file but getting pretty messy with all the old files not used. And now LR has added in addition to the -2-3 a v10.

In 2021 my wife and I are planning to take a 2-3 week trip to Europe. I’d like to focus on the trip, and not lug my overweight bag with my Nikon D850, lenses, flash, etc. Can anyone suggest a single camera, that’s easy to carry with good image quality? I’d prefer a camera with a viewfinder and one lens, preferably zoom. I’ve had pocket Canon and Nikon cameras, but not in the last 10 years or so. Not sure what the current state of that art is. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you!

I was on a photo trip in Feb with a Nat Geo pro who was sponsored by Sony. He had three cameras- A 9, A7r4 and RX10 IV with 0.03 s. AF/25x optical zoom. He used the latter more than half the time. He said the lens was really really good. But you need to get your head around the Sony menu.

I can also add a question for this topic if you don't mind.
I have a Z6 mirrorless and cannot get my Spider Pro 5 to work its software for a fine tune adjustment. Do I need to update the Spider?

My Nikon DSLRs allow me to save adjustments for each lens and allows me to number/define them. I don't remember if it automatically adjusts when you change lenses. I believe however that for example, an adjustment made for a 50mm F1.4 lens does not impact an adjustment for another lens so long as the camera knows the lens.

I saw a Steve Perry video about avoiding overexposure using blinkies. In the video he demonstrated that they only flash when at least two color channels are blown, not when only one is. This is usually not a problem, but for things like red flowers or sunsets, red might be the only important color and if you rely upon blinkies you can get weird results.
I should look for that video. I have two of his ebooks and have blinkies questions. I have a camera that permits me to set the level at which they go off so I could manage ETTR if needed. But I don’t use that camera much. I invested in a medium format that I am still learning. I can not adjust the level but have done some experiments. If I shoot a flowering tree with pink flowers and where you can see the sky thru the tree, I get the blinkies on the pink petals (if in the sun) but not the sky. And when I open on computer there are no blinkies and lots of detail in the petals. This tells me the blinkies are programmed to go off well below 255. I would like to know the level and if they can be adjusted. User manual and out reach to manufacturer not helpful. The camera is not Nikon and the blinkies go off with only one color. I had not thought white balance would matter but I guess if you are warming the image and the yellow is close to blowing it may matter.
Also he showed how the white balance setting impacts blinkies, possibly giving a false reading if shooting raw.

Your experience with this?

I recently pulled out a Nikon camera body that I had not used for a year or so and the rubber portion of the body was real tacky. How do you clean this rubber to remove the tackiness and how do you prevent this from forming in the future?

I have read that “gu be gone” works.
