This isn't quite the same but I recall seeing in Nevada these Stuckeys shacks in the
middle of nowhere advertising pecan log rolls. I always wondered how far their employees
had to travel to get there.

Lots of Stuckeys back in the 60s on the route from NYC to Florida.
I remember stopping in South Carolina for some “Fo Yo Pancakes.”

I worked IT for the Department of Finance for almost 30 years. Had multiple offices in each borough. Retired 10 years ago.
I’ve lived in Dutchess county, and commuted for 2.75 hours each way. Said as soon as the last kid is gone, I was moving back.
She left. I’m still here.
I was born in Manhattan, and educated through grad school in Manhattan. I grew up during the big, bad, 70s, and never got hassled.
I’m 72, and as much as I miss getting a bacon, egg, and cheese on a buttered roll, with a lite and sweet coffee, and a copy of the New York Times at 3am at the corner bodega, I’m freaked out by all the violence being depicted.
I’m a city kid, not naive, but the progressives have screwed up the greatest city on the planet.

Yeah, well Bernie Madoff had “investors,” too, and a fraud was perpetrated against them.
Yeah, the Dems will return the money when a “legal decision” is made.
If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
Considering the money came from fraud, you’d think the Dems would do the right thing, eh?
Once again showing their true colors.

I don’t think so.
I figured if I posted here, I’d get more lefty bowels in an uproar

Since Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, has been convicted of fraud, and was the number 2 donator to the Democratic Party, behind Soros, will those Dems who received contributions from him have to return the ill gotten gains so the victims can be compensated for their losses?

Seems to me nowadays it is more PC to blame Boeing (which obviously cannot be responsible for wheels falling off or pilots driving off the tarmac) instead of perhaps looking at the vaunted DEI hiring practices, where inferior workers are hired when they check the appropriate boxes.

I agree 100%. Merit is no longer a consideration. The incompetency across the board, including professionals like physicians, and lawyers, will destroy this country.

What I don’t understand is the limited range of these vehicles. As a kid, my friends and I would drive a car from NYC to Florida, usually straight through, within 24 hours. Some areas had 85mph as posted speed limit.
If the average range of an EV is 250 miles, that means approximately 5 stops for charging would be required for the trip. I’ve read that a full charge can take many hours. So if we conservatively say 2 hours per charge, that’s an additional 10 hours.
My gf and I will be driving from NY to LA, in the next few months. If I had an EV, it would add approximately another 30 hours to the trip for charging stops.
I don’t understand the appeal, other than a small cost savings, and MAYBE some environmental savings. Let’s not forget that electricity needs to be generated by fossil fuels, and other pollutants.
Though I suspect a lack of emissions is a plus as well.
I dunno.

We see lots of posts about ancient terms that young people don't understand. I am nominating another one - "Paper or plastic?" Now that many states have outlawed plastic bags in stores, I predict that this will become a mystery to younger people.

I remember when it was only paper. Then they said we were deforesting the trees, so they introduced plastic.
Now they realize that the landfills will take 2 zillion years to break down all that plastic!!
Yeah, I want more government in my life.

I knew about the assault on the officers, that the assailants were here illegally, that they had been caught, processed and released. What I was not aware of was that they had gone to California. Where was this reported? I'm not saying they didn't go to California only that I hadn't seen that reported on.

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Several migrants who were arrested after an attack on two NYPD officers in Times Square were seen getting on a bus to California after they were released from custody without bail, sources told PIX11 News on Friday.

NYPD officials have vowed to continue their search for anyone who was involved in the beating.

Meanwhile, city officials say migrants are still welcome, as New York City is a sanctuary city, but not if they’re breaking the law.

Here in NYC, 5 illegals stomped and kick 2 police officers, breaking one of the officers bones.
They were arrested, then released without bail, returning these violent vermin to the streets.
They all ended up fleeing to California, where California officials claim they are a sanctuary state, and won’t extradite these criminals back to NYC.
All of this, violence, open borders, rampant stealing forcing many stores to close, etc., etc., lay at the feet of “progressives.”
The inmates have taken over the asylum.
