Hi, looked at your sharpened image and it does look a bit soft, is the image cropped? also if you think it might be camera shake it would be worth taking a tripod shot just to compare with the hand held. If using flash then ensure the flash sync is at the high setting. I hand hold most of my macro shots and set the camera at high speed to capture multiple images, it is surprising how often you will find just one image (rarely the first) is much sharper than the rest.

Curious: Canon 24-105 f/4 L ?

I have this lens and think it is excellent, not quite as wide as one would like on a cropped sensor but really comes into it's own on a full frame. I have noticed that the price of this lens has come down quite a bit in the last year so buying new is a really good deal. Good luck.

Yes you definitely have a lighting issue, if you were to post them here I have 'special kitchen lighting' I can fix it for you at no cost and will definitely post improved picture.
