Thx, but those are data only, and so no voice or text, like all other e-sim options that I’ve looked at.

Last year (Sept.18 - Oct. 9, 2023) we visited France, England, then did a river cruise starting in France ending in Switzerland. I bought a Nomad Regional Europe 30 day-10 GB esim for my Iphone 13 Pro and another for my wife's Iphone mini. Each card was $22. I'm in my 70s, when I started the activation I did what I thought I was supposed to do but it didn't work. I called the support number and within 30 sec everything was up and running. This fall I will use Nomad again.
Both our phones use Consumer Cellular. In 2022 we had CC turn on international calling and each phone had about $100 of data usage. I much prefer Nomad

Does Nomad esim include voice, text, and data or ONLY data? Thank you.

Enjoy your time in Portugal. You will find free wifi is very common. You might be able to just use WhatsApp on Wi-Fi and not bother with an e-sim. Be careful in Lisbon for pickpockets. Particularly Rossio Square. Note in restaurants they bring you bread cheese etc before you even order but it is not free. You can say no and they will not be offended but some places try it on a bit with tourists.
Generally you will probably be surprised how cheap things are in PT.

Thank you.

We have found upon arrival in almost any foreign country, in the baggage claim area of the airport, there are several booths selling local sims. We buy one that will last the length of our visit, usually anywhere from $20 to $50. Have always worked well. When we return to the airport to depart, we go back to the booth and have then reinstall our old sim.

Yes, I have done that in past many times. I was trying to decide if I could use e-sim in lieu of the physical sim card. I found physical sim card little cumbersome especially when I have to take off my phone case which almost requires me bending the phone.

Not all providers offer international service.

VZ does offer international service at $10/day. Just having your phone on without use, triggers the automatic daily charge. eSims are lot cheaper, but I am unclear about their limitations as per my original questions.

Why the e-sim?
Won't the phone work internationally?

Yes, it will work but not cheap

In few days I will be traveling to Portugal and am trying to decide on phone connectivity. I am considering e-sim on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, such as AloSIM, AirALo, etc. But I am confused about e-sim capabilities and online search didn't really clarify this adequately for me. Here are my questions:
1. For e-sim card to be used during travel, is a wifi connection required?
2. Almost all if not all e-sim cards are data only. Would I be able to use text or voice functions to stay in touch? If so, how?
3. Which e-sim cards are recommended?
Thank you.

Get back to us on what settings you are using. Assuming my old LR6 has the same options in the same positions, check Edit / Catalog Settings / File Handling. I use the Standard Preview size at 1440 pixels. I like a Medium Preview quality. Also, I "discard" my 1:1 previews after 1-week, a process that occurs when the LRCAT back-up runs, also something I limit to just once a week.

The other place to look for preview settings are your Import settings. Here, you can create several different types and formats of previews. On my older computer and older software, I create only "Minimal" previews at import, these being the size to support the Grid view and a full-screen view of the image.

If you find the delay ongoing and annoying, consider letting your computer run over night and 'select all' images in the entire catalog and then use Library / Previews / Build Standard Sized Previews. Let the process run overnight, it will probably finish for your 100K by the next morning.

I did build Standard Size previews and it did improve the performance. Thank you.

a. That is a very large catalog.
b. What usb generation are you using? the USB speed could be part of the problem.
c. Is the external drive spinning disks or SSD?

All good points, but it shouldn’t be related to that because it’s a recent slow down without any changes in your comments. I think that it was related to a change in a preview size section. I’ve changed to standard size previews and performance did improve. Thank you.

I did all the computer housekeeping and malware check, as I routinely do. I think that it has something to do with the choice of building previews. I think that it dates back to the PS 2024 upgrade when I was making a selection regarding the speed vs the size of the previews. I have changed it from my previous setting which probably resulted in the perceived slowdown. I wasn't able to find this setting to change it back. Thank you.

Sorry, I meant a LrC, not PD update.

Also, how long has it been since you ran your computer's cleanup and "housekeeping" apps? The caches could be full, and the whole thing loaded with lots of left over crud it has to run through before doing anything new.
How long since you ran your anti-malware and antivirus software - not having active care on, actually run the software?

What is the status of your previews? Have you just made some recent changes, in the LR catalog / software and / or migrated to a new computer?

LR Classic is a 'database', a database of the locations of your original image files, LR's internal versions of those image files (aka previews) and your edit instructions.

"Best Practices" are to store your LR catalog on the fastest disk on your system. The previews are in the many subfolders of your LRCAT location. If you migrated to new equipment or changed the location of your LRCAT, did you bring the preview files along with the LRCAT? If applicable and 'no', well, that would cause the delay as LR has to dynamically build the previews for the Grid view for each image found in the catalog.

Other issues may be involved. More relevant technical details are needed for better guesses at your situation.

I am experiencing a fairly slow display of images in a grid format in the Library modules of LrC. I am using the latest version of LrC (13.1) on iMac with fully updated 13.6.3 iOS. I do have a large catalog (~ 100K images) on an external drive. Images are within folders and folder images display slowly. I did Optimize the catalog, but display of images is still slower than I would expect. I think that there is a setting in LrC in terms how fast previews of images appear in the grid format, but I wasn't able to locate it. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Checklist:

Do you have at least 16GB unified memory?
Do you have at least 512GB internal storage (SSD)?
Is at least half of your internal storage completely empty, to allow room for memory paging operations?
Have you tried shutting down all other running applications?
Have you run Adobe's uninstaller for Photoshop?
Are you running the latest version of macOS (Sonoma 14.2.1 (23C71))?
Compare macOS versions on your iMac and MacBook Air. Which is newer?

Yes to everything except I am running the latest Ventura, not Sonoma. Actually, I just resolved the issue this afternoon. Yesterday, I contacted Adobe Chat support and they identified the problem with plugins and suggested that NIK was the culprit. They were correct that plugins/filters were causing the issue but it wasn’t NIK. It was an earlier version of ON1. It took me while to sort this out but everything is back to normal.
Incidentally, FYI, one can start PS without any plugins by holding down the SHIFT key while starting the PS and holding SHIFT down until the splash screen appears. At that point, prompt asks if you would like to start PS with or without plugins. Selecting without plugins, allows PS to start without plugins. This allows determination if the problem is with the PS or plugs ins.
