Can any members help me to understand "Curves" it's the one area with PP I haven't got clue about.
I have tried using curves but I really don't know what I am doing so any help will be appreciated
I use Zoner Photo Studio usually and sometimes PSE 12.
Many thanks,
John.

Elements doesn't have a Curves feature like the one in Photoshop. The Curves feature in Elements (called Color Curves) doesn't have as many preset settings and as many adjustment points as the one in Photoshop.

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/correcting-color-casts.html#adjust_color_curves

If you want a fully functional Curves feature, you could use SmartCurve, a third-party plug-in (Windows only).

This will help you understand Curves.

Who knows how to buy the stand alone version of LR 6? I for one will never go the CC route. Someone shared to us how to buy the stand alone. Adobe has kept this procedure a very difficult secret. So, the only problem with this purchase is simply.........no more updates......Boo Hoo.....As it stands, there are very few updates in 6 that are that significant. LR is the industry standard for post processing and version 5 is extremely powerful.......I purchased LR 6 stand alone today....haven't yet installed it as it was late but will do so soon. If you want to know the secret, send me a check for......oh, $35 and I will share Adobe's secret with you.............(I'm such an ego maniac).

Assuming this is the key you are referring to - if this is not the correct info - please state the correct activation key - please be specific as the above # is the only # I see for the Mac on the first page. The first # is for a PC - the second is for the Mac. What else does one need to activate the program.

Are you aware of this?

the Mac version was designed for PowerPC devices, hence you will need OS X 10.2.8–10.3.8, or Rosetta, in order to get things up and running.

Since the program has been downloaded to the Mac, just what is the procedure to uninstall this program if so needed? Please be specific as to steps used for uninstalling. As of right now, I do not see an uninstall folder. Thanks

As I said before, just use the same procedure you use to uninstall any program from your Mac. You have never uninstalled a program from your Mac before?

First, it's so old you wouldn't want to use it. Secondly, I'm surprised you were able to get it. For a long time that "free version" was not available.

I don't understand why anyone would want such an old version of Photoshop. You could have all kinds of incompatibility problems with your OS and with add-ons. Here is just one case of incompatibility if you decide to install brushes in Photoshop CS2. Photoshop brushes (.abr files) aren't backwards compatible. They can only be used in versions that are equal to or higher than the version they were created in.

Even if you are still using an old version of Elements such as version 6, you are better off (in some respects) because Elements 6 is based on a more recent version of Photoshop CS, version 3.

As you can see, installation was successful - but how to proceed from here is a bit murky. I think my problem may be that I never received an "activate page" upon closing the installation successful page. Why, I don't know. When I click on the Adobe Photo …2.mpkg (arrow), I get the install adobe photoshop CS2 page again (as shown). Kinda like going around in a circle - no end in sight.

This brings me to this: I did not see an uninstall folder (how to uninstall CS2) - would someone that knows the procedure, exactly how the uninstall procedure is done, please drop me a PM or show instructions for it on the forum. If I can't get this to work correctly, removing it is the next step. Any ideas as to how to proceed would be useful.

If I didn't show or didn't do something to make it activate, please advise. I really would like to make it work but if this can't be accomplished, well then I'd just as soon remove it.
As you can see, installation was successful - but ... (show quote)

INSTALLATION is one thing; ACTIVATION is another thing. You can install any Adobe software but you also need to activate it. This has been Adobe standards as far as I know. As it has been said before in this thread, get that serial number from the download page. You need it to activate the program. SEE THE SCREEN SHOT.

Don't you have Elements 6? It is the same thing. If you bought the boxed version, there was a serial number on the box which you would use to activate your copy of Elements.

You are on a Mac, aren't you? Just do whatever you do when you want to uninstall a program from your Mac.

You will be better off purchasing the latest version of Elements if your computer meets the minimum requirements. Adobe has given quite a few features to Elements which once were Photoshop's only. In quite a few areas Elements is ahead of this free version of Photoshop.

Don't count on Adobe's tech support for this free version. You are on your own.

You won't be able to update the Raw Converter to the latest version.

I successfully installed CS2 on my Mac with 10.6.8 OS . instructions said - follow on-screen instructions - when you receive a message stating that the installation was successful (it did say the download was successful and I clicked finish), click finish. You may be prompted to activate your copy of Photoshop.

I successfully finished the install but did not see a prompt to do an activation - so what do I do now, what is my next step? Is there something within the info below that I need to click on to activate the download. Please advise. I'm stuck at this point until I know how to proceed.
See the screen shot of the download info for CS2:

You need the serial number. Go back to the download page. It is there.

If you had read the previous posts in this thread, you would have seen this information. It has been mentioned more than once.

Ok, it's downloaded.

I opened my elements 11, tried to open a raw file....nothing.

Now what.

First, you need to convert your Raw files to the DNG format using the Converter you downloaded. Then, you open the converted files in Elements 11.

Did you save the e-mail you received from Adobe when you bought PSE11? The license number you need is listed in that e-mail.

It may be in his order history, but I wonder if Adobe still has Elements 11 available for download.

Yes, it will. The download link for any version you buy directly from Adobe will be in your account. They say they will keep your download available for three years beginning with the day you bought it. But Adobe doesn't really follow this. All the downloads I bought from Adobe going back several versions are still there today.

It's not an overstatement for me and many, many others like me. You are obviously very well equipped to detect viruses and such. Sometimes it's not a virus .. it's just an annoying toolbar that takes over your computer operations and is harder than heck to get rid of. I have very competent, computer savy people in my family, and there was one toolbar I got that was extremely hard to get rid of even for them. Freeware is notorious for this kind of thing.

Not only that, you did ignore my other premise that if you obtain your software through legal means, you will receive updates. Now I know there are safe programs to download that are free. Adobe flash player is a good example. All I'm saying is to be sure it's legal and be sure you aren't downloading something you don't want along with it.

I quite understand your point. I have had my share of encounters with those unwanted toolbars. Sometimes it is clearly explained before you proceed with the download that such a toolbar is optional. Other times the toolbar doesn't show up as an option until you begin running the software .exe file. And other times the toolbar will sneak up on you and you will have to use the Manage Add-ons feature on your browser to disable and/or remove it completely.

I should count my blessings. I have been in this field for over 10 years and only once did I come across a toolbar which caught me off guard and installed itself. But I eventually got rid of it.
