Nice images - tow truck with a .50. What were they going to retrieve?

Dogman

They would retrieve other track vehicles tanks or Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicles-ACAV) that were stuck, or broken down usually due to a mine or RPG. Needed the .50cal for protection and peace of mind.

Arrived July 1965. Never forget my first monsoon. Witnesses this wall of water closing on me about 2200 hrs., glowing from the flairs being dropped by a C-123 around the air base at Da Nang. The Army was in a good size firefight on the perimeter as well as a Marine patrol that was returning from a patrol. Flairs were for the patrol that was pinned down about 300 meters out. Rain quickly put a damper (literately) on the flairs which were rendered useless as the rain moved in.

Monsoons were a little rough for navigation in the 11th ACR as well. This vehicle is the VTRetriever (tow truck). As you can see, it was rendered pretty much useless.

I too served with the 11th Armored Cavalry. Came home through Oakland and was not treated very nicely at the San Francisco airport. Six of us travelling together, and we were refused service at the bar by some long haired hippie. We were served by another bartender after four of us started over the bar to serve ourselves. Good times!

I thought that I was over VN after I got home, but found out later in life, that I was never even close to getting over what happened. I doubt that any of us get over what we experienced over there.

Hi Marshall, and welcome. I do not have an A77, but I do have a Sony a55, and I like the way the video works very much. I did not purchase it because of the video, but after using it several times, I was quite impressed. The auto focus has never given me a problem, but as I said, I do not use video a lot. From what I've read you should enjoy the Sony a77. Good luck and try one out if possible.

I got the Sony 43, and it is a great flash. I also have an off brand that I purchased because of price, and it works well, but it is no comparison to the Sony. I would definitely recommend the Sony for the cost difference.

Thanks. I've seen your shots of the eagles, and always enjoy them. Glad this one came around for me.
