Snow rollers are created when you have the perfect combination of sticky snow and gusty winds. I looked out and saw four snow rollers and then a huge gust of wind came, when the white out cleared the back yard was covered with them. They are quite rare, people that have lived here all there lives have only seen them one other time and others have never seen them.

Sunday Mother Nature played in the snow and this is what she made! Our back lawn was filled with thousands of these snow rollers. Just about every field and pasture in this part of Vt was filled with these.

Snow has fallen for the past couple days and we played in it for quite a while yesterday. We have 20-24 inches and more in the forecast!

Happiest dog ever.

Follow me girls!

Pure Joy.

Thanks so much. We never made it to the small animal barns. We bounced between the pony pulls and the rides. The ponies all enjoyed their pictures being taken.

Sometimes the lighting in the barn can be terrible......
I would think there can be a lot of flashes with camera phones and point & shoot cameras.
Just check it all out when you get there.
Post images!!

We just got home and I uploaded some photos. I tried a few different styles. Let me know what you think.

What type of gear do you have? I take my 28-300 F3.5 and when it gets dark I put on the 17-55 F2.8 I don't like using flash in places like this. And some times it will scare the animals. Things get pretty hard to take after the sun goes down. I would hit the barns first and then the midways.

I have a 50mm 1.8 and a 17-270mm 3.5 that I was planning to take. Good ideas on the order.

I will be going to the county fair this weekend with my family and was wondering if anyone has tips for taking great photos at the fair. I will be there in the evening into the night. I'm sure I will be going through the animal barns and around the games and rides.
I would love to see some photo examples too.

For your first try, I would say you nailed it pretty good.

My family is very active so my photos tend to be action shots. This is my first time trying to pan and I think it came out pretty good. I would happily take constructive criticism or even better positive comments.

Thunder just had a bath, then rolled and was shaking off the excess water when I snapped this photo. He is a really nice pony that is why this picture makes me smile.

Thunder rolls.
