you are fiction. why don't you pull your head out from that hole in the sand? no you aren't criticizing, you are just telling photographers that what they do it not real. here's some reality for you... your philosophy about photography doesn't mean squat to anyone but you. but you knew that already, since you have not heard a word anyone who doesn't agree with you says.

Some I remove backgrounds and features, through cropping or 'dodging', (to use an old term). But I do, now, label them as such.
What I dont do is add or substitute elements to the scene to enhance its visual appeal.
And I'm not criticising them that do. I just think that they should draw the viewers attention to the fact that it has been done. Because its fiction.
A little like a book that is fiction based on real life experiences is still a novel and would attempt to change history, if it was published as fact.

does a grey card work just as well? also, i see folks using white, grey and black cards. what are they all for? is one for wb and another for exposure? sorry newbie here

Look at it at their website HERE (google is your friend)
It should be a color-neutral translucent material.
The ExpoDisc has a layer of small pyramid shaped...hmm, light collectors.
No exposure compensation needed, the camera takes care of that if it's on auto.

I use one and they are better than guessing and better than auto (if you use it correctly).
Sure, you can fix it in post processing, but this gets you not only in the ball park, but close to a home run right from the start.

thanks mark. good info. i always have my wb set on auto, and sometimes my pics don't look natural. i guess the camera doesn't always know whats right. i also only shoot jpeg, so its important for me to get it right thefirst time.

Hmmm... I see your point, but we really haven't demonstrated anything yet. We've talked about it a lot. The temp slider and tint slider work together to correct WB. Just because someone says it has too much red and another person says it has too much blue doesn't demonstrate anything. :-)

Regarding color and WB and what we should be looking for... The info is out there. Here's a link:

In your case, as a natural photographer, you'll probably want to use a custom WB setup, since the camera defaults may not be as accurate. You can refer to your camera manual on how to set this up.

can't figure out why my camera changes settings when i turn on my flash unit. i'm using a canon xti with a 430ex hotshoe flash. when i setup my camera in manual mode and turn on the flash, it changes my iso and shutter speed even if i put my flash in manual mode. why can't i take full control of everything. anyone have any good recommendations for learning how these two things work together? i don't post here very often, but i always read. thanks.

i don't use raw, so please don't tell me how stupid i am for not using it. you can call me a snap shooter or whatever you like, jpegs work for me, and i'm not going to change so please save your post for someone who cares.

okay, now my question... is there any advantage to using the adobe camera raw editor in photoshop on my jpegs over a a simple editor like picasa or gimp? thanks in advance.

speaking of banter... why don't you an jenny create a new topic or better discuss your ideas using the pm feature? i don't think country is getting much from this. just sayin.

Jen. i got no idea how it could be controlled , it would be a banter site like all the rest where people just come to visit . and talk about what they got and what there going to get , it would have to be just a question and answer site. the question comes up with a number the answer comes back in with that same number . the one who asked that question gets back on types that number . and all the answer,s pop up that have been sent in . there will be no yanking back and forth . maybe a number to get hold of some body on a private thing like thay already . it all begins with a idea then gets tossed around to explore all the ways it will work or won't work .

Looks like they have recently revamped the site.
I hope it is still as good as it always was.

hi country. i think you nailed it. the iso on the first photo is too high. yes, a lower iso means lower noise. take your iso off auto, and you'll be golden. love the bridge.

country wrote:
took these two photos, but changed settings... one is ok, the other not so.. im trying to learn to use manual more, although I did leave iso on auto.. the one that is not so sharp and has noise( I think), is that because the iso is much higher ?.. is it better to have iso as low as possible ?.. the only change I made was shutter speed, which changed iso.. any advice will be appreciated as I am still a work in progress... thanks...

okay... sounds like others are using manual too. its confusing to me that everyone has their own special way. i guess there is no best way; we just need to experiment, huh? never thought about rotating my camera and shoot portrait mode for panoramics. thanks.

Shoot portrait; overlap about 30%; shoot manual - I use f8, focusing on infinity - set shutter speed as a compromise between the brightest and darkest areas; ISO and WB on manual NOT automatic; keep camera level; I use PTGui for stitching. okay, so it's not good to use one of the other modes? i read in another post that many use the program modes so that the dark areas become lighter and the light areas become darker. is seem logical that it would make a more even light. i guess i need to try it, huh?

lighthouse wrote:
The lot.
Same ISO, same aperture, same shutter speed, same white balance for all shots.
That way the light should be seamless across the image.

thanks bill. some are going to laugh at this, but i'm still using a dial-up connection, so the youtube stuff is almost impossible to watch. i was looking for a simple text based procedure. thank you anyway.
