Or you could set up the picture so that it fits on the next size print with crop marks and bleed trim. You might find this to be less expensive. I already own an exaxto blade, cutting mat and straight edge...but that could be because I'm a Graphic Designer and those are standard supplies for me.

I just use mpix.com. I do this for my 11x17 prints (use 12x18 standard prints). That way I can use their awesome metallic paper prints.

I also use this method by expanding the "canvas" in Photoshop to the next standard print size then trim (or matt) to the image size.

Don't worry about it, just state that some (or all) of the photos were shared with you & you are sharing "as is". Some might even appreciate knowing the date. While we photographers don't like them, many people are used to it & won't care. Since cropping or hiding them would otherwise ruin the photo just go with it.

Check out the Cancer Survivor's Park at E. 22nd St. & Lakeshore Lane, just south of the Reed Park Zoo, it is interesting architecture & especially beautiful at night.

A good zoom such as 18-300 or 28-300 is a good choice as there are many subjects both near & far that you will want to capture. You don't want to carry more than you need or change lenses more than necessary since you will be in crowds & it can be hot & dusty.

One step better is a swim noodle. Cut to desired length then slit it half way through so it fits over the glass, adjust window to correct height for you & shoot. Turn off the car engine if possible to eliminate vibration.

A slit piece of foam water pipe insulation placed on the partially opened car window makes a good monopod when shooting from an auto. It's cheap and minimizes engine vibration effects on the camera shutter.

If you are having trouble keeping the focus on the bird, & you are shooting against the sky (no foreground), you can try "closest subject focus", it can work well in this situation.

This new unit downloads directly from the SD card so a tablet or computer isn't needed till I get back home.

That sounds great but I'd still take enough SD cards (they are tiny) so you can copy the images to the drive & keep the cards in a different pocket so you have backup. If you loose either the cards or drive (or it crashes) you still have your images. Redundancy is your friend!

Your traveling one works well as a clothes drying rack in hotel rooms when you need to wash out a few things, just hook the room's hangers wherever they fit for extra space.

Check your local thrift store, I've picked them up for $5, also garage sales, estate sales, etc.
A slide duplicator that fits your slr camera works well to "duplicate" the slides & you have a nice sized file to work with.

I'm in several clubs & each is different. Most have contests, programs & field trips. One is associated with our local zoo & do special projects for them supplying photos they can use.
Another has sponsored seminars, has online contests each month & outings. Check our website: www.pbase.com/imagemakers, where each member has a gallery & galleries are set up for contests & outings.

I love the D700! Bought a second body recently so I don't have to change lenses too often. If you want video get something else but if not, don't hesitate to get the D700. Got my first one when you had to wait for them (2009?) Have had it all over the world & still works fine.

I love my D700, bought a 2nd used body rather than put all that money into a D810. It is better in low light & I keep a telephoto on one & wide angle on the other, don't have two different controls to switch between. The video would be nice at times but I can live without it.

Fishing vest definitely, less expensive, more pockets & shorter- easier to sit in. (For short people like me it fits better!)

The only things I ever put in checked bags are tripods and monopods. Relatively indestructible stuff. Learned my lesson years ago with crushed flash and a smashed lens or two. Today there is also concern about theft, since you can't really lock things anymore.

Heavy stuff and really oversize things I ship ahead (example, an 80 lb. location lighting kit that includes five monolights, stands, etc.) via UPS or FedEx, etc.

My cameras and lenses go into a carry-on or two. Last trip was "light", with just a gripped 5DII, 20mm, 24-70/2.8, 135/2, 300/4 and 1.4X, portable flash, light meter, a few filters (only needed 72mm and 77mm with those particular lenses), spare batteries, chargers and other misc. accessories in my smaller LowePro backpack. That all fits in the overhead, no problem. I carry a separate shoulder bag with laptop and a few personal items (necessities like toothbrush and change of underwear, in case my checked bags take a different trip than me).

Other trips I've also worn a photo vest loaded up with gear. That may not be very comfortable, but it doesn't count against either of the carry-ons allowed! (Actually, I don't buy photo vests... I just buy cheap fishing vests and use them as photo vests. Same thing... just 1/4 the price.)

Out love affair with the AUTOMOBILE!!!

Now that TSA can and does open many bags, I would be even less willing to ship anything of value. I had my credit cards stolen as I went through the TSA security entrance in SFO. Was it a TSA person? I don't know, but once I removed things and put them in a TSA basket, it is their responsibility to keep my belongings safe and they do not seem to put much effort into it.

I used to love flying, but now I hate it. Time for high-speed rail. Why are Japan and Europe so far ahead of us on this?
