It is actually an 8 speed. The belt has to be moved across the 4 speeds - top and bottom - at the same time to keep belt alignment and tension. There is also a high and low speed on the vertical shaft. As shown, the small top gear on the rear shaft engages the large top gear on the front for a low speed range. The rear gear pair will slide down to disengage the top gears and engage the large bottom gear on the rear shaft with the small bottom gear on the front shaft to give a 4 times multiplied high speed range.

JR1; Are you always sarcastic, if that was your intent, and vague? What is the purpose of your comments about the picture of the young child on the bike? The purpose of that picture evidently was not to show off the bike or its rear wheel (it's not missing, only not completely included in the frame). What were you thinking should be in focus? The ground, the trees in the background, the spokes of the bike? The picture is really a good one of the young rider and is in fantastic focus considering the target is being tracked at close range, a difficult feat at best. If you have any useful information concerning her questions, your reply would justify adding 1 to your score. Otherwise, your quick vague reply is as meaningless as your 8000+ posts whether intended to be sarcastic or not.

[quote=plieber]It would be neat if some enterprising soul could come up with a self-contained sensor/electronics package where the sensor would be full-frame 35mm

My idea exactly -- i have all my sketches for just that - a photo sensor that did just what you suggest. My patent attorney advised me it was a waste of time and money to persue it as it would never be commercially viable and it would
require more memory than would fit in a cartridge size unit -- that was in 2004 when you couldn’t hold 1 GB in your hand -- now you can get 60 GB in the size of your fingernail.
At least i got my idea regestered back in 2004.
