I was trying to respond right there in your topic, but I did not have the usual buttons (ex: REPLY etc). I was reading your topic and I agree to a point. You're surely talking about the big boys here ( and I agree, a solid tripod and a gimbal are best for them), but if you're shooting with something small and very light (Canon 400/f5.6) you can have that hanging around your neck all day, or hold it up in your hands all day and never feel the weight(well there is none) and you can always (almost) hit your target.
Wonderful shots, I especially like the first one!
After Nikonian 72 recommended, checking out the true macro photography forum of this site, I decided to jump right in, albeit with an old (several years) picture of an yellow jacket. I shot this using a 75mm/f2.8 Pentax lens in reverse on a Canon 5D M II on a macro slider (f16, ISO 400)
I agree, I have it hanging around my neck (with a second body & lens) all day long and I don't hardly feel it.
I agree, a little more info on what you're planning to do would be welcome You can pre-focus (manually, set a shutter speed fast enough to stop the action and use an aperture (in combination with a good focal length) for having a nice background blur ( so tripod is a must). Wireless shooting be best and use continous mode ! Under certain circumstances you might need to use flash too ( that would'nt change any of the above mentioned).
It appears, I'm getting surrounded
So which one did you get, the Sony, or the Leica M?
Ditto, I'm getting spring fever
I use the focusing point manually with the joy stick, right there in the viewfinder and put it where I want the focus to be (works well for BIF) keeps the focus on the eyes. Recompose works good too, but this is so much easier and faster (the MIII works especially nice in this way, since I can put my focusing points all the way to the edges of the frame).
I used to use only the center focusing point (and reompose) with my 5D MII, but now with my 5D MIII, I've changed that and have my finger on the joy stick at all times - putting focus right where I want it (without having to recompose and loving it)!!!!
Hey big Ed, save yourself a long trip and just hop over to Denmark and have one there at any stand you find - tops everyone mentioned so far.
It sounds to me that you're using the Magic Wand tool instead. If, use tiny triangle to switch.
What kind of camera are you shooting with? I use the 400mm/5.6 Canon for handheld BIF shooting and I really like it for that. It is light, focuses quickly and image quality is ok too,so it performs well in this regard.
I don't know anything about your camera, but there should be something to reset it to the factury default (probably check in the manual). At least that would give you a fresh start.
