Keni, It appears that your focus is on the thorn vine in front of the chair with everything else behind, including the chair being quite soft. I think I would like to have seen the chair be the focal point, (but maybe not, hard to tell without seeing the image like that.) I do like the composition with the chair a bit to the left in the frame. Overall excellent work. I do like the sun reflection on the water being left in the frame.

A little WD 40 won't hurt it if the shutter sticks. The WD 40 will eventually evaporate anyway. A little on a rag will also work wonders cleaning it.

Don't use WD-40 on anything with plastic parts! WD-40 is part drycleaning fluid which can deteriorate plastics. And no it doesn't evaporate, at least the oil part. If you read the fine print on your drycleaning receipt it says not responsible for damage to any clothing plastics.

If the shutter sticks cleaning with contact cleaner is much better, which leaves no residue.

Thank you for your comment. In January I'll be trying my luck with the FM. I'm certain that long exposures were part of the film photographer's repertoire back in the day. Now I just need to figure out how they did it. Should be fun.

Yes, #3 is the best of this bunch, in my opinion. As Linda said, just mesmerizing. Another example of the wonders of long exposures.

Thanks, Dave. The song sounds interesting. I'm not sure about the sentiment in it, though, considering the shape Chicago is in.

ZZ Top, off their first album if I'm not mistaken.

Sort of reminds me of a song line: "Jesus done left Chicago, and he's bound for New Orleans!"

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Keni, I'm just going to comment on the technical aspects of your work. First of all one of my pet peeves is in putting together image elements from different shots many times its very hard to match aspects of each image such as shadow detail and the direction of lighting to make a believable image. At first pass it looks like you've done an excellent job with this.

Fishing Schooner "Bluenose"

Several years of work (on and off)

Wow! excellent rigging details. One of my pet peeves about many model sailing vessels is no one gets the rigging anywhere nearly correct. You have done an excellent job here down to the lines on the mainsail(s) used to shorten sail. The photo ain't bad either.

Thank you for posting these images. The fragment appears to be nickel/iron in composition I'm guessing.

I think we had an involved discussion of abstract in the section a while back. No matter. It is something that many of us delve in from time to time. I think abstract comes basically in two flavors. Representational, like your photo. We know it is ice and snow with vegetation; but you chose to give us just a detail of the whole scene which makes it appear abstract. The other flavor is non-representational. Here it is much harder to tell what you are looking at; but the form can make your mind come up with its own subject matter. I like to use motion blur for these kind of shots and I do quite a bit of it. This is a recent shot that made me think of extreme verticals like those found in gothic cathedrals. The actual subject is trees. I also think the reactions come in two flavors. One: Wow, that is pretty cool. I kind of like it. Two: My God, Erich!!! What were you thinking, and why would you abuse your camera in such an unnatural manner !

I think "abstract" shots are most liked when they have a recognizable subject and when they do not have a person (which instinctively draws the mind into its category, specific mode).
I hope others chip in on the discussion with examples of their thinking.

This is one of your better efforts Bob, IMO.
