if you have Canon use the DPP software that came with the camera

I couldn't agree with this more.
You learn the basics and get comfortable with the processing/flow. You never have to worry about outdated raw formats when you get a new camera.
You can always move onto "after-market" imaging processing software. You can easily cull through photos to quickly review them.
You have the option to do some, actually a good bit of, editing and whether you do or not you can export to TIF, or any other established format.

For Nikon it's ViewNX-i, of course.

To put in another, hopefully more simple way, 19 / 28 = 0.678... close enough to 2/3, which is 0.6666666... .
Or, 28 / 19 = 1.4736... close enough to 3/2, which is 1.50.

For ease of use, Luminar is a great choice and can be used as a plug-in if you ever decide to take the plunge with Photoshop and Lightroom.

I too think it's a great choice. At the moment, it's on sale for $59.00 https://skylum.com/luminar

The interface is very straightforward but still provides a high degree of control and creativity.

MPB is relatively new but I had a good experience with them selling some gear.

Here is a comparison of ViewNX-i and Capture NX-D, which are the latest versions in their respective categories:

Although I use other editing software, I frequently use ViewNX-i for browsing, quick review, culling and converting to TIFF/JPG.

A crop camera crops nothing. It is a smaller sensor than a FF camera, by it's crop factor. The crop factor is nothing more than a reference to a full frame camera. A 1.4 crop sensor photo will be 1.4 x smaller, as if zoomed in. What you see is what you get, no cropping.

Exactly. I've often thought the term should be "zoom factor".

When mechanical Television began in the 1920's the frame was vertical. Folks learned later that vision is more horizontal so that it is easier to view motion pictures in horizontal format. It is irritating to view vertical video as it seems like you are looking through a slit. Interestingly it would be nice to have a vertical monitor for reading e-books.

I can rotate my monitor to a vertical position and change my display settings to corespond. Using Windows10. I would guess this feature is widely available.

The data say "yes". 😁

UHH is only as interesting as members are willing to make it. If you don't count the topics created by one-and-done brand-new users (many of whom don't even respond to the replies), there are few who are interested in talking about photography. Or, I should say in creating discussion topics to talk about photography.

To my way of thinking, "raw" is not a camera file format. It represents a class of unprocessed file formats which can consist of NEF, CR2, etc.

After all, I may be snacking on some raw sushi while capturing images in raw format.

So, I agree it is not an acronym.
