How many stretches of highway in Europe can one safely drive at those speeds? There might be a few here in the plains states in America, or in Canada.

Stan

Nowhere in Canada, putting aside the speed limits, the Canadian roads are crap, I'm Canadian! As for the USA roads, while somewhat better than Canadian roads, certainly not good enough for a really fast car. As for western European roads, well that depends. Some roads in Germany are built and maintained so that high-speed driving is reasonably safe. How do I know, because I have had the pleasure of driving on some of those German highways both as a driver and as a passenger at speeds in excess of 200mph. Next time you are in Germany, spend the bucks and rent a really fast German or Italian car and give it a go. Oh, yes, be prepared to pay a heft speeding fine, but then that is all part of the excitement! Been there done that, fine was the equivalent of $5,000.00.

Looking for a monitor for a Mac Mini. Looking a Benq's but I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks

Would you be open to an Apple XDR 32" display? Go to apple.com and check it out to see if it is compatible with your new Mini. It will blow your mind at 6K resolution and 32" diagonal width. Oh, it can be used in either horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) mode as well. I will let you discover the exciting part for yourself!

How many times do you have to remove wheels off cars? Looks like an air wrench would be adequate unless you do routine mechanics.

Twice a year at a minimum. In the spring (March) off with the snow tires and on with the summer tires. reverse the procedure in October, remove the summer tires and install the snow tires. While I do have an air wrench and the requisite air compressor and hose, the cordless electric torque wrench is much easier and quicker to do a seasonal tire change over. At eighty years of age and with the onset of arthritis in most of my joints, simplest and ease of use is paramount to me.

WHERE ARE THE MASKS?

Think back one year ago when the photos were taken, nobody wore masks then because that idiot liar Donald J. Trump said there was no problem, only 15 cases of "flu", all under control!

Thanks. Yes, handheld. haven't tried it on a tripod yet, which brings up a question, which I may ask in another post. Why does it seem so many 200-500 owners replace the tripod foot? Is it somehow defective, or because it may interfere with using the focus ring for some?

IMO the Nikon included tripod foot is TOO short, especially when the lens is zoomed to 500mm and attached to a gimble mounted tripod. The balance is way off forcing the operator to increase tension on the control knobs of the gimble. I use a 6" long aftermarket tripod lens foot on my 200-500 which improves the balancing operation of the lens on the gimble a breeze and returns full functionality to the gimble/tripod setup. Just my opinion from in- field use, YMMV.

Just intrigued to find out what we do use our DSLR/MILC cameras for? (don't count the "I wonder what this button does?" occasions when you accidentally find yourself with a video file)

I'll begin the survey with my "stats" - here they are:

Photography 100% Videography 0%

Guess I am an oddball here. I have over 80,000 photos on my backup hard drive and approximately 450 hours of video on another backup hard drive. I did not start an interest in either venue until my first African safari in 1996. On that occasion, I had a Sony P&S that was capable of doing both. Returned home after the safari and promptly bought a Canon DSLR and a Sony Vidcam. Carried both cams on four successive safaris. By 2014 I decided to reduce my photographic/video equipment to a single camera a Nikon D5100 and successfully shot thousands of photos and hours of video with the one camera until it occurred to me that I was missing either precious photo/video moments swapping lenses. So, prior to my 2016 African safari, I decided to change out my equipment once again in favour of two Olympus micro 4/3 cameras, one dedicated to photos and the other dedicated to video, each with appropriate lenses mounted and ready to go. As an aside, I found I had reduced my overall equipment bulk and weight which to me is most important on small African aircraft and walking safaris. As to what percentage of my photography is photos or video, I have no idea and have no idea how to calculate the combination, I'll let someone else better at math do the calculation.

In 2015, we vacationed in Alaska, one week land and one week cruise, all with a tour group. This fulfilled my wife’s bucket list to step foot in every of the 50 states. Me, not as well-traveled as the wife. While Alaska is arguably the most photogenic of any of the states, it has one of the ugliest State Capitol buildings in the USA (Google it)…looks more like a typical office building.

The photos are all taken with a Nikon D5200, which I have since upgraded to a Nikon Z5.

Great photo Bobbyjohn of you and your wife! Just for the record, your wife is holding a set of Moose antlers while you on the other hand are holding a set of Cariboo antlers!! An honest mistake as I doubt there are many Moose or Cariboo in Texas.

i have done what is recommended and removed all my feeders and cleaned up underneath them.
i will need to remove the birdbaths also unless i can clean them thoroughly daily. the disease called salmonellosis is easily spread at crowded bird feeders. my birds will be foraging for food naturally for
at least 2 months and my feeders thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

drat it...i hate it but a bird lover has to do what a bird lover needs to do. is anyone else having this problem?
pine siskins, typically found in abundance across ... (show quote)

Hi Merry, yes, we have been swarmed this winter with pine siskins and yes we have seen several sick ones as well. Have followed good hygiene with our feeders, taking them down each week, high-pressure washing of the feeder trays, feeder frames then treating all feeder components with bleach. Letting the feeders thoroughly dry before re-loading and hanging again. Thorough washing of the concrete pad that the feeders sit on with a high-pressure washer then flooding with a bleach solution. Fortunately, we have had very little snow this winter but have had much rain with cold winds, so really want to keep some food available for the pine siskins, house finches, sparrows and dark-eyed juncos that spend the winter with us each year. Hope I am doing the song birds a favour???
Hope all UHH are staying safe, Garth

It is sad Voss! Moreover, it appears that both the USA and Canada as well as much of the rest of the world are now entering the second wave of the Covid-19 crisis. I suggest you and I will have many more similar scenarios to photograph in the coming months.

Last year when I upgraded from Mojave I ran into problems with 64 bit OS and Photoshop ? To be able to use Photoshop which is my primary computer usage, I had to go back to Mojave with the help of the Apple tech folks. Has Adobe resolved this problem and can I safely upgrade or do I need to stay with Mojave ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Understand your frustration!! While you do not mention the Photoshop version you are using, my guess is that you are trying to run 32bit Photoshop on the Mac 64 bit OS. Apple has warned users of its 32 bit OS that it would be migrating to a 64 bit OS this year and that legacy 32 bit programs would probably not work once the OS has been upgraded to the new 64 bit OS. Suggest you speak to Adobe with respect to upgrading your existing Photoshop software to 64 bit.

Hopefully that will end your problems, assuming your MAC hardware is capable of using the 64 bit OS. I know, it is frustrating when a perfectly good operating system and its companion OS along with a first class application becomes downright useless all because one or more of the components changes. It is called progress and I am uncertain if I agree!
All the best Garth

Here's what I find curious: I'm told that I have to be quarantined despite having TWO negative COVID tests because I come from a "high risk" country. Yet China is not on the high risk list. Huh???

What is it that you find as so curious about China NOT being on Barbados's high risk list? China, unlike the USA, responded rapidly and decisively in controlling the Covid infection once it was discovered in it's population.

Barbados is a small, poor country, with limited health/hospital resources so it is natural that the Barbados authorities do not wish to overload their health/hospital infrastructure.

As to your statement of having been tested twice for Covid, that is all well and good, but, unless the test and particularly the results of the test(s) were instantaneous, i.e. just as you were about to enter the aircraft for Barbados, the test do not mean much as to your possible infection. Furthermore, you maybe one of those individuals that while test free of the Covid infection and/or do not display any signs of the invection can be a carrier of the disease and capable of distributing the disease to others without actually being sick or suffering from the disease yourself.

Lastly, it is YOUR responsibility before traveling outside the USA to determne if you are eligible to travel to your intended destination. It is not the responsibility of the destination country to use it's resources to determine if you are free of infection, hence the blanket quarantine ruling to determine if you are free of disease before entering the country.
