Very nicely done. 👍🏽
Question - How did you focus?

Both are lovely photos in this “hogger’s” opinion. If I read your post correctly, the first photo was not done with an iPhone, right? If you did use an iPhone on that one, I’d like to know how you did it. The second one, while being a beautiful image of a beautiful young lady, doesn’t have the “look” of the first one. (Just my opinion.)

Thank you, Linary. I did mistake megapixels for megabytes on the resize option.

Linary wrote:
The problem is that LR does not export to a "size on disc" which is (I think) the size you are looking for.
The export dialogue mentions

RESIZE TO FIT - and various ways of looking at the size, all of which are to do with the image size or dimensions in pixels, not the size on disc.

The size on disc is controlled by the quality setting (jpegs) and no two jpeg images will be the same. The simplest jpg will be an image of a black cat in a coal cellar and will yield a different number of bytes on disc to that of an image of a multicolored cat in a flower greenhouse.

In LR, uncheck the box "Resize to fit", and export the same jpeg two or three times at different quality settings. (the dpi - which is actually ppi - does not make a difference to the file or image size).

Here is some more insight into my original post.
I started with raw files using 24MP and 42MP cameras.

I just now exported (from Lightroom) some new jpg files for a different project. This time I used 1.5 MB and 600 dpi (instead of 300 dpi). The resulting files were significantly larger ... some actually larger than the 1.5 MB criteria.

I’ve tried to create jpg files of a specific size when exporting from Lightroom but the jpg files that get created are much smaller than I specified in the criteria. Does anyone have ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Back story: I’m trying to create 1.5 MB files so that five or six files will not exceed 10MB. I designated criteria of 1.5MB and 300 dpi. The files that Lightroom created are in the 500KM to 700KB range.

Just asking for your thoughts. I have scouted it out and have a plan of action. This is one of the larger weddings I have done in a super nice venue.

No matter how many I do I’m always a little
nervous. If you have any words of wisdom please pass them on. Really just trying to make conversation. There is always something new to learn from every person I meet. Do you have anything positive to add to the discussion?

The images I saw on the website look to me to be well thought out with plenty of time to stage and to shoot and also plenty of post processing. Some may be composites of multiple exposures. The one identified as “A Royal Setting” appears to me to be a long exposure using a tripod and a tight aperture of maybe around f/16 or more (note the starburst effect on a few of the lights). You don’t need a lot of light for that type of image.

I was there over the new year 1995/1996. A group of us had lunch there. While I sat outside for a while at the pier getting some sun, a motor boat came up. The family got out to have lunch. The stunningly gorgeous 20-something Jamaican nanny got out of the boat and laid down a towel in front of me on the pier. Then she took her bikini top off and laid down on it to get some sun while the family had lunch. So, that’s what I remember about it.

Besides taking the older camera and a UV filter for the lens, you might consider a rain cover. Optech makes some very inexpensive ones. They make several sizes.

You might also take some gaffer tape to help secure the rain cover.

I like it too. I’m just speculating ... that this might be post processed with Topaz - ?

Which trick? The log out and in or the direct download?

Full disclosure: In my secret internet life I have been anointed with the title of "Adobe Community Professional" or "ACP". It came because I was recognized by Adobe as being able to write answers on their forums. In return they give me free software.

It is important to me that you understand that you DO NOT need to abandon LR6 if you buy a new camera. Yes, I think the CC plan is a good bargain. Adobe would like you to subscribe. But Adobe also works at providing tools to keep you running with what you have.

The "DNG Converter" is kept current with all the software that works with RAW from all the cameras that shoot it. You may not have used it correctly. But when you buy the A7Riv next year, you can use the DNG Converter to copy and convert your files to a RAW format that your then "old LR6" will do fine with. Adobe moves foward, but they don't force anybody to do anything.

People are buying new cameras all the time and still using their old favorite versions of Adobe software.

Thanks bsprague. We are fortunate to have you and other experts here to help us with our problems and curiosities.

The “trick” that worked was getting to the helpx.adobe.com site and finding the download for Lightroom 6.14. My previous searches seemed to always take me to an area where it seemed the only option was Lightroom CC. I am still curious why Lightroom said my software was up to date when it really wasn’t.

"I had already tried using DNG but to no avail." That's because "DNG Converter" is a separate, independent program. You use it to convert your Sony files to a different, more compatable, still RAW, format with a .DNG file name.

There are several things to try. First, try logging out and back into your Adobe account via the Help menu. Then try the Help>Update choice.

If that doesn't work there are a couple other things to try, including a direct download: http://swupdl.adobe.com/updates/oobe/aam20/win/AdobeLightroom-6.0/6.14/setup.zip

That link comes from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/keeping-lightroom-up-to-date.html
...and here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html

If you still can't get it to work, there are two other forums that soley focus on LR user to user help.

Thank you very much. That did the trick. I was able to update to 6.14, then import some raw files. I guess on my next camera upgrade, I’ll have to give up the standalone version.

Thanks for those tips. I had already tried using DNG but to no avail.

However, even though when I go to check for updates, Lightroom says I am current. But when I check version, I am still on version 6.13 instead of 6.14. I haven’t found a way to upgrade to 6.14.
