He said it was much more severe than the flu. And he said that people have "spent weeks minimizing what is clearly a very serious problem."

While he delivered that monologue, his colleague Trish Regan was on Fox Business dismissing coronavirus as nothing more than an attempt to impeach Trump."

There are now more than 5,000 coronavirus cases in the US

There are at least 5,010 cases of the novel coronavirus in the United States, according to the state and local health agencies, governments and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC there are 70 cases from repatriated citizens.

According to CNN Health’s tally of US cases that are detected and tested in the United States through US public health systems, there are 4,940 cases in 49 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 5,010.

In total, 97 people have died.

There is no such thing as a foreign virus.

"For immigration historians and other scholars, the way US President Donald Trump is describing the coronavirus pandemic has a familiar ring.

"This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history," Trump said in an Oval Office address Wednesday night. Trump’s elimination of the office suggested, along with his proposed budget cuts for the CDC, that he did not see the threat of pandemics in the same way that many experts in the field did.

“One year later I was mystified when the White House dissolved the office, leaving the country less prepared for pandemics like COVID-19,” Beth Cameron, the first director of the unit, wrote in an op-ed Friday in The Washington Post."
