An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned
to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike
up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total
stranger, "What would you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God,
or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly.

"Okay," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask
you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same
stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns
out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?"

The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence,
thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which
the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss
God, Heaven and Hell, or life after death, when you don't know shit?"

And then she went back to reading her book.

A lot of these lenses were orphaned when Minolta Maxxum bodies started dying at about 15 to 20 years of age.

Sony's purchase of Konica Minolta (Konica bought Minolta years earlier) gave these lenses new life. Minolta did a lot of design work for Leica on both bodies.... The Leica R and Leica CL/Leica Minolta bodies and Leica glass collaberation. Leica was also one of the planned partners in the 4/3 consortium, before dropping out of that venture.

Knowing my style... there would just never be a Compact Flash card in the camera ever again.

However, at the rate I sell cameras, I would have it fixed. The 5DIII still has a relatively good value. What does the fix cost? If over $150... forget it.

I have been with Consumer Cellular for years. Honest, low cost. I pay for my phone and my wife's phone a total of $50. Unlimited, talk, text, etc
No charge for that new sim card or to install it. Target is a consumer cellular agent.

I concur here. I pay $20 per month for a single line on Consumer Cellular 250 minutes a month, unlimited text. Had to get ripped off by US Cellular, Verizon and Sprint to learn my lesson. Consumer Cellular also has a Grandparents dedicated device connecting grandparents and children with a small monitor. Nominal monthly fee.

I don't do data on on phones. I use a small laptop and free wifi spots. No cell network HotSpots for me, with the proliferation of free WiFi in so many locations. So can't speak to Consumer Cellular there.

There is a very inexpensive thumb grip that slides into the hot shoe and keeps the thumb quite removed from the Q button. It makes access to the command dials on the top a little tight, but I would prefer to protect the Q button.

Remember the move to mirrorless is a move to smaller lighter but it makes the top deck a bit tighter. You can always go back to those "tanks" you found too cumbersome, or you can adjust. I find myself adding the thumb grip, the soft touch shutter butt and the hand grip/arca swiss plate just to fill out the hand a bit, but not put all the pounds back on. Thanksgiving is coming, and then there are the EOY holidays to fatten up.

Camera Rescue, Finland just hit 50,000 film cameras saved since 2018.

So many question who is using film. Well, I seem to have little problem selling film camera's about 20 years now. It supplements my retirement nicely. Now along comes this notice from the web site Kosmo Foto about a group called Camera Rescue. Here is a link to the article on this obviously very active movement to save and provide film cameras to those who still use them. Film activity seems to be good and remember, only Medium and Large Format cameras are still being manufactured new.

https://kosmofoto.com/2019/04/camera-rescue-has-saved-its-50000th-camera/

Yes, it's just the beginning of the "niche" market film is beginning to become, but film production is rife with new film being announced and film camera prices holding, some rising.

So now a question this poses for me is How Does the bridge actually look to the eye (if you recall)

The flicker feature is interesting if it actually created one of these images.

In over 25 years of computer teching External Hard drives (most have an enclosure or caddy in which a standard hard drive is enclosed) the failures are one of two possible.

1) the actual hard drive fails
2) the enclosure which contains an actual hard drive fails

The larger majority of failures occur with the enclosure. The enclosures are not often built to the same standards as the hard drive. Quality control on hard drives is vastly superior to QC on the enclosures. They are separate units.

The vast majority of failed EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURES in my experience is LaCie. Seagate has built their market over time by buying out Hard Drive manufacturers and peripheral manufactures that are failing. They bought Quantum and Bigfoot, Maxtor and others going broke due to QC issues.

A relatively recent acquisition by Seagate was LaCie. They had previously been selling Seagate drives to LaCie to be installed in EXTERNAL DRIVE ENCLOSURES.

OP, If your enclosure has failed instead of the actual hard drive, it's entirely possible that the drive is intact and will work properly OUT of the enclosure. This has more often been the case on External drive failures I have worked with.

Hard drives inside your computer do not fail in the same percentile as those installed in separate external enclosures. ie. example the terrible history with LaCie (taken over by Seagate)

It is to be noted hear that Seagate does bring up the Quality Control on their actuisitions, but there is often a bump in their numbers in QC. I have often found it odd that Seagate builds their numbers in this way. However such takeovers are not uncommon in the tech world.

This is why my backup configurations start with triple redundancy. I require at least three functioning backups of each file to fulfill a minimum standard to even suggest that you are covered with a working backup. In addition, at least one of those must be off-site from your location. In fact the best plan is a functioning fourth copy off site.

One's efforts devoted to a secure backup system should be an integral part of your work flow, or you are sadly deficient and will lose valuable data. It's called DAM for a reason. Digital Asset Management.

Tomorrow is Good Friday. In deference to that day, will spend some time for spiritual reflection. I did create a slideshow depicting the significance of the day. Can you spare 10 minutes of your time for HIM? If you have the time, below is the link. Photos were from The Holy Hill Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, in Hubertus, WI.

If you have more time for HIM, here's another video. It's from Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI. It's a bit longer, 17 minutes.

Suggested activity for Good Friday: Watch "The Passion of the Christ."

See you on Happy Easter!
