I will give that a try

I am agreeing with the other posters, I think it is some kind of hardware problem, but it would be nice to eliminate LR from the equation.

I wonder, Searcher...
When your picture is open and there is some space around it (NOT the workspace of PSE itself, but space between the picture and the border of the floating window, you can right-click that space, then select grey, black or custom colour.
I don't use this feature very often, but it's handy to see, for example, what colour mat would look nice with the photo, or even to make (part of) the photo stand out for fixing what needs fixing.

Thank you MS, it's a new one on me. I don't recall ever having the frame larger than the picture before, so I have not noticed this.

Just upgraded to W10 everything went fine until I tried to Network my laptop W8.1. I am being asked for my ID and password. Have no Idea why this happened? Any help to a solution will be appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

When you boot up the laptop do you not have to log in with a User name and password?

When your W10 machine is trying to contact the laptop, it will surely need that password.

I discovered Picasa in my Dell desktop computer in January 2014. To my delight I finally was able to scan photos and post them in the UHH Forum. But a few weeks ago, I noticed a new folder that I did not create, and it's been growing, using my own photos in a peculiar way. It's titled "People" and subtitled "Unnamed People", and shows small head-and-shoulder faces extracted from various shots in my files. It lists 183 groups and shows 743 faces, each with a little panel under it to "add a name." The faces are often extracted from group shots, individually, and enlarged so they are head-and-shoulders, so they are blurry and unrecognizable (except to me). If I click on a tiny X in an upper corner of a photo, I bring up a question, "Do you want to ignore this person?"

What's happening? How can I delete this intruder?

On the menu bar goto Tools > Options and open the Name Tags tab. Uncheck both "Enable Face Detection" and "Enable suggestions", click OK

In full Edit mode, on the Menu > Window > Tools (check the tools)

I can't help with your reference to Blue Background - I don't know what you are referring to.

My best guess is a layer of ice crystals in the atmosphere. Enough for your eyes to see the effect but not enough to allow your camera to capture it. I see that here in the high desert from time to time. Annoying when you want to capture it.

It was certainly cold enough for ice where I was standing :)

Thank you for your explanation; I have eighteen years to think this through - or a trip to the desert.

at 0327 this morning, I was stood shivering in the garden staring at the moon, camera in hand when the moon went dark surrounded by a silvery halo which in turn was surrounded by a red halo.

The photo/drawing below shows very roughly the scene.

I could not capture that red halo no matter what I tried.

I tried many different exposures, from slow to fast, different apertures and ISO's, but could not pick up that red halo.

So far this morning I have searched photos from more proficient photographers than myself, and have found no photos of the events of early this morning with the red rim

Can anyone explain this please?

This is a moonpic with Photoshopped rims

Take a new photo in normal lighting, check the histogram in the camera and ensure it is showing normally.

Import straight from the camera or card straight into Lightroom.

Is the image corrupted?
Open the image in Develop Module and check the histogram, is it roughly the same as you saw in the camera?

Hello all,
I'm all messed up here and Ill walk you through it the best I can. I go to My Pictures where 3 folders appear,
1. A folder called 2015, where only pictures I've taken in August and September appear.
2. Light-room, in side are back-ups for July, Light-room 5 catalog Preview Ir-data, Light-room 5 catalog temporary Import data and temporary import data journal.
3. My Light-room which has a folder LR5, in it are 20 sub-folders of things I have named, including folders, Google Auto back-up, Light-room 6 catalog Preview Ir-data and smart preview data.
When I get into Light-room there are question marks everywhere now. I am on the ledge. What do I need to do? Thank you.

#1 Cease and desist from visiting My Pictures. The temptation to move images around is too great. All moves should be made from within LR.

#2 and #3 This folder is the LR Support files folder, mess with this and you could lose everything.

Open LR in the Library, choose the grid. Right click on the first folder with a Question Mark. Choose "Find Missing folder" and on using the windows which will pop up, navigate to the missing folder. Don't open the folder when you find it, just click on "Select Folder", you will be returned to LR and the question mark will have disappeared.

Examine the other folders (in LR), if they still have ? marks on them, repeat the exercise.

When all ? marks have vanished, go to the topmost folder, right click and choose "Synchronise". If there are any loose images in the folders, they will follow the Import routine.

That would make sense, but, as I said, it only looks that way in the Library module, and I don't know where to uncheck that option.

Clipping options are only available in the Develop Module.

Thanks for the quick reply, Searcher. However, when I go to preferences in LR, among all the different tabs, I don't see anyplace that I can switch on or off a graphics card.

Sorry, forgot you have LR 5, the option to switch on or off the GPU came in on LR6.

However, the images in the Library are generated from the previews stored with the catalogue. The images in the Develop module are generated from the original (larger) file and can be different.

When you enlarge in the Library, you are still seeing a rendition of the small images contained in the catalogue albeit resampled and with the editing entries taken into account.

Always view images in the Develop module to check accuracy, and use the Gamut checkers in the soft proofing options.

Normally LR works fine for me, but in the attached photo it won't. I finished working on it in the Develop module and it looked great. When I switch back to the Library module I get these red & aqua colored blotches in the extreme shadow areas.

This photo was intentionally underexposed with the early morning sun shining through the upper window. No problems with other photos before or after working on this one.

Any ideas for a solution?

The Library module image and the Develop Module image are not necessarily the same image. If you are using a graphics card and it is switched on in LR preferences, the two images can be very different.
Always treat the Library module images as simple previews. The Develop Module image should be accurate.

Any tutorials you can point me towards?
I don't know of any, although I am sure there must be some out there.

I just tried to print a photo that was far larger than the paper and the only help I got from PS was a message that some clipping would occur.

From that, I imagine the image must be set up correctly in the first place - dimensions and print resolution etc. then meticulous attention be paid to the printer settings.

Perhaps some of the Hoggers who are used to prints from PS would chime in here and offer their expertise.
