I used to shoot horses and horses racing. I made up a business card that said, "we shoot winners AND losers." It didn't go over very well.

I remember when you shot horses and racing (your shots never missed ) and I think that is neat way to explain it. Too bad people didn't quite get it.

Pay no attention to what I say because, as an artist, to me, everything that one calls beautiful is art, be it God's work (the best), man's work or something that happened accidentally.

Also, don't pass up every opportunity to ask questions and video the conversation. If that's not possible, at least attach pictures to what you write.

May be because I am an artist, but I see photography as being art every bit as much as a painting.

Look at the difference in artists...Michelangelo, (beautiful details as he saw it) Monet, (what we call "loose" art, soft art) I love it.... Picasso (don't ask) and Grandma Moses (Beautiful in it's own right...outlined in black like coloring books) but I like it. So many kinds of art and some of every kind has been famous over the years and sold well, no matter who didn't like it. The good, the bad and the ugly art, is all still art. What one calls GOOD art, some may not want in their home.
I have painted some things I didn't even like myself. I have sold every piece I ever painted. The bad didn't take any longer to sell than what I thought was my best.

Now look at photography, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Just like paintings, some you'd love to have hanging in your home and some you would not, and just like paintings, photography is simply something to view...and like or don't like. What I see as the good art of photography is that which I would want to hang on my wall.

Jo I don't see anybody laughing. But your guns do need some care. If I lived closer I would come over to clean them for you.

The first one pictured is a High Standard Sentinel Model. I have had a number of them and each time I sold one I kicked myself and wished I had kept it. They are a very good revolver and one of the best plinking guns you can get. I do think you should sign those adoption papers I keep meaning to send to you.

The other one looks to be a Model of 1892. It came in various models such as the New Army and New Navy. It was to be had in either 38 Colt or 41 Colt. I cannot make out from your barrel but on the left side it should say, Colt DA and then either 38 or 41. If it says 38 that does not mean 38 S&W Special that is sold these days and since 1898. Your gun should be in 38 Long Colt or Short Colt. It will fire both. The cartridges would be pricey today. It was nickel plated originally but nickel plating does flake off if not cared for. If the gun says 41 then it is a 41 Colt and those cartridges while available are REALLY pricey.

It would be interesting to look at the back of the holster. It could have been made by any number of excellent holster makers at the time, Lawrence, H. H. Heiser, to name but two. Some are very rare in that police style holster so it would pay to take a look. It looks somewhat like a Border Patrol style holster designed by a border patrolman, Bill Jordan back around 1955. That is too late for your grandfather to have carried that holster of course.

Thanks for posting. You have nice stuff.

Thanks for the info Dennis. The Colt is a 38. I'm still not sure if he got it in 1936 or 1914 another time when they were issued there. They got new police cars in 1914 and it's possible the got new weapons too.
The adoption papers are signed. I'll try to be a good mom.

Gracias Amiga. I do appreciate those thumbs up as does I think every other member who has replied to this thread.

I don't have any idea the motive of the person asking. It may be completely innocent and he may have photos of firearms he would like to submit. I hope so. But there are a number of people who are completely afraid of all firearms, an irrational fear in my opinion, and who cringe at the sight or knowledge of one around them. Nobody is forcing them to look at these photos.

I read what you said about snakes. LOL. Sorry, I had to laugh. I like snakes. I want the good ones around to kill and eat the bad ones. Some cute little Northern Brown snakes live under my back porch. They ignore me and I ignore them.
I'm sure some of the really serious owners are beautiful fire arms laughed at the pictures of mine, but I'm not nearly as serious about the beauty as I am the protection they offer. Yours are beautiful!!!
