This was taken back in early June at the World Trade Center memorial site - guest store. Can you guess what type of camera I used to capture this shot (no need to get super specific)? The store was quite cramped with a ton of people so I couldn't get the whole subject into the frame. Please critique any and all aspects of the photo. Thank you.

So what are you going to do with that lens?, or more to the point what price would you like to set for that lens?

I have a Nikon F mount ring on order. After I drill some holes on the new ring, I plan to swap the Minolta mount with it and try the lens on my Nikon D300s. I may not achieve infinity focus capability but that's ok. I will not modify the lens in any permanent manner. This little project is a no brainer for me. I've disassembled and reassembled a number of lenses already. It's too early to set a price but I see lesser quality lens on Ebay go in the $300-400 range.

If you haven't already, please read my responses in this thread. This lens was purchased new by my father while vacationing in Hong Kong in 1976. When he returned he told me the lens was just too heavy so he put it in a styrofoam carton and stored it inside his teak wood writing desk until I found it. It really is just like new. Thank you.

I have a KatzEye on a Nikon D300s. I frequently use a manual focus 50mm f/1.2 lens, and that lens would be impossible without the split screen and easy with it.

I also have one in my D300s. I can't see not having one. Makes focusing (especially for those with older eyes) so much easier. And I can verify the auto-focus with it. Any future camera upgrade (D600, D800???), would have to consider KatzEye in the over all costs.

How about trade for a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 auto focus lens? I have one that was on my father's N4004 that I would gladly trade, I do reverse lens photography so the auto focus is not important to me.. This is a pre-plastic lens, the real deal.

I heard the owl again early this morning (5am) and also heard from a distant a 2nd hooting. I went out with camera and flashlite to try and locate it but no more hooting. Maybe, he'll be gone for awhile starting a family. :)

I have a 16GB in my D300s but I don't think I've ever come near its capacity.

Fry's a local SF Bay area electronic retailer today posted Nikon D700 (and D7000) in their newspaper insert.

Does the D600 have a partial magnesium housing (like the D7000)? I passed on the D7000 for the D300s because the latter just had a better built feel and full magnesium housing. I'm looking to go FX but might be disappointed.
Thank you.

All great suggestions. I especially like the one on attaching flashlight to tripod by Boszik. The owl did not return last night but I hope to be ready when he returns. BTW, I tested shooting with the popup flash into a dark room using the AF button to focus just to see what kind of shot I would get. I took the shot once the green dot ("in focus" ) lit. Pic was not in focus. Tried it again with the room lights on and got in focus pic. So, I will definitely use manual focus for the owl. Thank you.

Since it's at night, I am on my own on this and it's pitch black out. I'm shooting with Nikon D300s with sb-600 flash unit. Owl appears in different areas so I can't prefocus.

Thank you all for the responses.

1. Have someone light it with a flashlight while you focus.
2. Most cameras and/or external flash units have an Auto Focus assist beam that needs to be enabled. That will illuminate your subject with either the flash unit or an infrared beam.
3. Set up on a tripod during daylight and prefocus on where it perches. turn off AF and come out and shoot when it arrives.

I finally found the source of the hooting going on at night. It was perched on top of a window ledge outside the house last night around 11pm. I heard it hoot so I was able to locate it with a flashlight. I would probably use my flash to take the shot but how would I focus in the dark? Thank you.
