Here in SA, one can pick up the Nikon 200-500 for just under R20 000 and the cheapest Sigma 150-600 Contemporary for R14 500, Sport @ R28 000. I suppose the old Sigma 150-500 compares with the Contemporary 150-600, although I can't find any comparison between these two lenses online. Seeing that I can get a new 150-500 still in the box and brand new, just old stock, marked down to R8 000, I was hoping to get a comparison from the forum, maybe someone who uses both? If the 500 is much worse than the 600, I'd rather save a "bit" (R5 500) more and buy the Nikon

Tamron, makes some good lens ,but a couple years ago I read a write up on there wide angel , it rated excellent but some of the same copies of same lens tested didn't fair so we'll, it may have been some kind of fault in the production , but make sure you can bring it back
And exchange it ,at the least little sign of flare or any other thing you may notice in a picture

What is the difference now , I recall the Nikon was around $12 $1300 when it was first out
and the Sigma around $100 less and the sport a little more

Im kind of recalling seeing the Nikon for $1700 recently, and thinking boy that went up fast , but about every
Shot I have seen comparing same shot with ,Sigma and nikon , the Nikon had the best colour , the Sigma
Colour had a kind of unreal cartoon look to them , they just were not as good in my opinion, some one else may
Be able to explain that better than me, I can tell which of two same pictures which is which with these two almost
Same zoom capabilities ,

I don't know what it was, but this guy has 4 posts in 4 months and they are all unintelligible. No idea what his problem is. Maybe drugs, or booze, or just not a single clue.

He makes it clear, but only if you know what he's talking about , I can follow him but if I didn't know how to before I read this it would tough, ,I never read manual ,it has not been used since I bought them 10 years ,, I can get around to the things I need, and a lot of the stuff it can do does not interest me, like making ones head all contorted , etc but setting thathave to do picture out come, no problem , and i am photo self taught , every thing that I learned comes from books , and time life photography series , monthly photo mags , and taking lots of images

This is what Nikon expert, Ken Rockwell recommends. I went through all of my Picture Controls and increased sharpness to level 6. I shoot RAW though and use unsharp mask in post processing.

Don't all your photos look like a cartoon , like Rockwell as he has cranked to the limit, a little is ok but he goes to extremes.

Exactly. 50mm was considered a "normal" lens for 35mm. 80mm for 2 1/4, and I think 105mm for 6x7 and 150mm for 4x5. In my opinion there is no such thing as a normal lens. Most people get away from the so called normal lens pretty quick. It's basically boring. Most great shots that really stand out are with an extreme wide angle or telephoto. The reason being that our brain interprets them as outside the ordinary of our normal vision. They grab your attention. Just my 2 cents that is really only worth a fraction of that.

It's called normal for a reason , before dx cameras a 50mm lens was close to what the human eye sees , and we are the normal are we not that is why it's called normal . What did you have in mind for the boring name . Try this put a short zoom on any camera say 25-120 then look at straight edge ,the edge of your wall and a window or a tree trunk through the camera with one eye then open the other eye and look at the same spot, now start zooming your lens tell it matches what you see through the camera . OK now look and see where you zoomed to ,to match your bare eye , I bet you it's close to 50mm on the zoom lens , live and learn my boy .

Convenient use of that feature is forfeited when you use BBF.

Can someone explain why thay would want to lock exposer, when targeting a bird on the wing .that is what happens to me a lot a few years ago ,before I came across the BBF .I was using the shutter button for focus , I can't count the times I was on a flying bird and pushed the shutter and nothing happened , I couldn't take the picture because the focus wasn't perfect ,and the shutter locked up on me ,by the time it cleared it was to late . The bird was to far out , now with BBF on and camera set for continues focus ,and only single black dot spot metering . For all my shooting no mater what it's always set that way

I don't think I will have much choice, the message of free food seems to travel like wild fire

Don't know pigeons habits that we'll, you can't over feed them , if you want more just put out more feed they won't each get a little more but what will happen is more pigeons will join in to take care of the extra food , you can put three times more food out , and you will three times more pigeons coming every day , but there all getting the same amount of food , or take half the food away and only half will show up again they all get the same amount , it may take them a couple days to adapt to the new rations but they will .

I've got an em1 on this site for sale. Slap a 14mm f2.5, 17mm f1.8, or 20mm f1.7 (all pancake sized lenses), or 12-32mm zoom and you've got a great street camera (with a tiltable touchscreen).

What do you have to get out of that Clint ??

I usually shoot in aperture priority but also use manual..... let me ask this. When utilizing BBF, it removes focus from the shutter button. What then is the shutter button doing if you press it halfway? It's reading light, right?

Pushing the shutter in that case , there is no half push , you push it when you want to snap a picture, or push and hold to take as many shots of subject as you can get and don't forget your holding the BB down at same time trying to keep target in focus , it is easy to do as your not pushing one at a time , your holding thumb down on the BB , and holding index down on shutter , it's easer than patting your head
And rubbing your stomach with separate hands , try it you will never look back h

We now are up to about 70 who come for food each day during the winter. All are really pretty although I do have my favourites. The boys are so amusing when flirting, they fluff up their neck feathers, follow their girlfriend around and do little twirls in front of her. This always makes me smile.

Would you like more than 70 to come every day ,, ,
