Good day to all. Which is the best place to post picts for critique? I see some in general photography and in Photo Gallery. I want to make sure I post in the proper space as I am new to this. I attached some pictures that were also in the general section. Looking for critique as I feel that is an excellent way to learn.

Thanks Briace for the thumbs up! I keep an eye on your comments and pictures as well. The regulars on this site have so much to offer. I just love it!

Love the composition of the egret (heron?) photo! Particularly the contrast between rough wood and delicate, flowing feathers. Turtle is cool, too. My suggestion on the turtle is to crop out most of the blurred foreground log, but that's just personal preference.

Thank you Linda! I agree with the liking the contrast between the wood and feathers! I just wish I could say it was my decision to put the bird there. He was just nice enough to finally land so I could get that picture. I agree with the cropping of the picture. I had another one that was cropped. I like them both ways, but maybe a little more so with it cropped. Thanks again for the comments!

Beautiful job! I'd maybe crop the bottom 1/3rd out of the first one. These are great!

Thank you TK! I do agree with the cropping comment, so much so that I have a copy of the same picture that I did crop. I appreciate you taking the time to look and offer an honest opinion. That is why I joined this site.

Thanks Robin! I do have some great models around (as long as they haven't had too much sugar beforehand! ;) I appreciate you looking at the photos.

Good day to you. First off, I think your photos are all well done and hope you post many more.

As to your question, you can post any photo for critique in this section or any of the other gallery sections: People, True Macro, Sports etc. The key is that if you wish critique you should ask for it . Many people use the acronym C&C, which means Critique & Comment.

You can also have your photo critiqued in the "Photo Analysis" section which is a little understood place that gets a small percentage of photos. My personal opinion is the section has been a bust since few post properly there.

Here is how the "Photo Analysis" section is supposed to work: A photo is posted there for specific critique as opposed to general critique. In other words one would post a picture and, for example, ask, "Is the sharpness acceptable for this photo?" Specific questions are supposed to be asked for specific analysis.

The second use for "Photo Analysis" is to present a before or after workshop, teaching techniques for the members. I hope this might answer your question. 8-)

I like mine Penny and that lovey egret shot best.

Thank you photophile! My family calls her Mini-Penny because she looks almost exactly as I did at that age. She is a great and willing model (if we can keep her still). The egret was a bit more of a challenge. I kept saying..."come on land somewhere" because it was too fast when flying for me to keep up with when using the new lens.

My what beautiful grandkids you have there Mother-in-law!! The turtle looks so amazing! Love that lens! :) My turtle didn't turn out near that well, lol.

Why thank you daughter in law! I bet your turtle looks better than you think. Upping the saturation in post editing helps to bring out the colors that the sun was masking. Love ya.

Hi, Penny

I'm so liking the photos of the "grandgirls" - beauties all. Future heartbreakers. I'll leave the critiques to the experts. I would like to hear how you like your new lens.

Barb

Thank you Barb. I do feel sorry for their parents when they become teenagers. They are all exceptionally smart as well so its exciting to watch them grow. I love the new lens. It is a challenge trying to catch birds in flight or moving objects, but its a fun challenge. THe hardest part is trying to get the monopod in the correct position to be able to move freely.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first real camera. You didn't spare the megapixels. You got a really good one. I the the composition in all your photos. They each are unique in their on way.
A couple of books you might enjoy are Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure and another of his books A Field Quide to Composition, both can be found on Amazon and at your library.
So you are among friends, just put your feet up and enjoy yourself.

I agree with Tramsey. Bryan Peterson's books are phenomenal and so easy to understand. Congratulations on joining UHH. I am new here also and love all the advise. There are many knowledgable people and great photographers.
