Was shooting with my recently acquired R5. Took almost 800 images and maybe 8 were only half there. Have read about rolling shutter problem. Was using electronic shutter.

To my eyes the lower section looks to be missing most of the green channel. I think this would indicate a hardware issue rather than exposure/shutter issue. You should be able to investigate this more in your PP software.

While attempting to learn every way possible to control the Depth Of Field of an image, I took the attached picture of a Starling trying to get access to the beef suet in this bottom only feeder. I think I might have used five things to make the background in this image blurry to make the Starling stand out from the background. Earlier, I read somewhere that there are only three things that can have any effect on the Depth of Field of an image. Can anyone on UHH name five things that they think effects the Depth of Field of an image?

Aperture, focal length and distance to subject are the 3 for any given camera. Sensor size would be a 4th. You can verify this in Photopills dof table calculator. Plug in camera model and focal length and it produces a dof chart for aperture/subject distance. While subject to background distance changes the focus in the image, it doesn't actually change the dof.

I think the "new" versions will just be updates, as they've been doing all along. I get those update messages every week or so.

What's odd is that I'm getting a lot of update messages from Google Chrome. I guess they're finding better ways to spy on us.

Yes, it was an update to Win 10. Looking at my update history it was a Features update as opposed to Quality or Definition updates. I suppose that's why it seemed so different to me. Normally my updates occur automatically overnight.

Has any one heard of a newer version of Widows 10 coming out. I do get updates from time to time as I start and stop my computer. This one was telling me to restart it right then or pick a time to install it ???

Yes, that happened to me a few days ago. I was very suspicious as it didn't seem the normal MS update message but it was legit and I upgraded without issue. It takes a little while and you system will reboot a few times.

Hi fellow hoggers! I’m Paco Fernandez from Mexico City. I would like to share a little bit of nostalgia from the times of analog photography. These two cameras I’m talking about are, my first SLR, which I bought at a department store in 1970, (on my mother’s account) and paid her religiously every month. Back then I was 18 years old.
Now after searching for some time I finally found the exact model I used to have in those days a Praktica Super TL, German made by Pentacon.
The other one is my current camera the Nikon D850, as everybody knows Japanese made.
*Note: My very very first camera actually was a Kodak Instamatic 50 and it was a gift from my father back in 1963, I was only 11 years old. I remember I used to open the camera’s film cover right after taking a picture to see if there was something visible on the film!!
I believe it would be interesting if you guys could share stories or anecdotes of your first camera ever, at least, I would be very interested in reading them. Thank you very much

My first camera was a Hanimex Praktica Super TL with I believe the Oreston f 1.8/50 Lens. Great camera, wish I still had it. I bought it in a dept. store in 1971 before being shipped out to Germany for my 18 month tour (army). Shortly after arriving in Germany I bought a Minolta minature 110. Not sure of the exact model but it was the size of a pack of cigarettes and used 110 film. It had a socket for flash cubes. Remember those? Currently my go to camera is my Nikon Z6.

For Nikon users: if you were to buy a new camera body today(ignore any current price deals) which of the following would it be:
D850
Z6 II
Z7 II
I have a D500 and both DX and FX lenses. Just want to add a full frame body. Do BIF with the D500 & 200-500. Looking for the ability of full frame to provide higher resolution and better low light/ISO capability. Really just like fooling around with these fantastic cameras and their capabilities . Body weight is irrelevant to me. Not sure I would need the 45mp capability of the Z7

A year ago I only had a D7200. I wanted a camera with a flip out screen for low level perspectives and I wanted to "try" full frame and mirrorless (mostly for the EVF). The Z6 was getting rave reviews and would let me use my existing lenses with the FTZ adapter. After spending an hour with it at B&H, I bought the Z6 kit when it was on sale black friday 2019. I'm very happy with that decision. My 200-500 is permanently attached to my D7200 and the Z6 is my go to camera for everything else. The Z6 is a great camera but there are a few things that bother me, 1) the camera body is small for average size hands. I keep a Smallrig L-bracket on it all the time. It gives me a larger grip for my hand and the vertical part is removable(though I never take it off). The new battery grip might eliminate this need on the Z6II. 2) The EVF doesn't refresh quite fast enough for me when doing high frame rate shooting. Not a show stopper, just an inconvenience. 3) Switching between F mount and Z mount lenses in the field can be a bit cumbersome not just for the adapter but for the 2 different size caps required. Too many moving parts for my 2 hands. :) With Z cameras you will want to buy Z glass for this reason and also the fact that they are great lenses (I have 3 now). So you need to bear that in mind when deciding. My next body move is probably replacing the D7200 with a D500. If I didn't have the Z6 and had to choose one of the 3 for myself, it would be the Z6II. But that for my needs. Only you know your needs and can decide what is right for you. Hope this helps with your decision. Good luck. :)

Are you hearing the noise when its mounted on a tripod? many maufacturers suggest turning VR off when mounted to a tripod, because the VR is trying to steady an already steady shot.

Of course, if you're hearing it while handholding, then this doesnt matter. I thought I'd bring this up, because i didnt see this information in your post.

I agree with everyone else though. You should definitely return it if the noise doesnt go away.

I was hand holding. Yesterday I could hear the noise from about 2-3 ft away, but today it seems to be less noisy. I now need to have it with 1 ft to hear it. I wonder if there was some break in that is reducing the noise. B&H doesn't have any more in stock right now so I'm going to wait at least a few more days before I make a decision on it.

Thanks,

The 105 mm Nikon is one of the best lenses you could ever have. Get it replaced by your seller. I suppose you could send it to Nikon to get it repaired.

Thanks for the input.
