We rented a VRBO in Santa Fe, largely for it's great photo potential. Here are some of the photos from there...

As stated earlier like #2 but maybe try to pull more detail out of dark areas in upcoming trips or in PP.
Two more trips, two completely different areas!

Where was this air show? Since both aircraft are USAF (F-16 & F-35) I assume it was at an Air Force Base. Maybe Nellis AFB?
Nope, Alliance airport in north Ft. Worth Tx. It's a yearly thing, alternating Thunderbirds/Blue Angels as the main attraction. It also included an A-10, P51, C17 and some aerobatic performances. This year it was a "drive-in show", you bought the ticket per carload, got two parking spaces in order to social distance, and no static displays etc. Turned out very well I thought!

I like, or shall I say (gasp!) Love the first, fourth and fifth images here. Especially the fourth. I have a thing for classical B&W. Even if you don't give my original statement much credence, nice to know you at least read it.
We must have similar tastes, those are exactly the ones I'd pick from this set.

Holly cow! I love frame #3... for the mad man piloting
Funny that you say that...the inverted plane is #5, the lead solo, who happens to be...
Maj. Michelle Curran is the Lead Solo Pilot for the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, flying the No. 5 jet. She majored in Criminal Justice at the University of St. Thomas and earned her commission in 2009 through Air Force ROTC. Throughout school she participated in track and field and was a figure skater. She also enjoys mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking and spending time with family in her spare time. Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, she served as an F-16 instructor pilot at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas. She has logged more than 1,300 flight hours as an Air Force pilot, with more than 160 combat hours over Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and Operation Resolute Support. She is in her second season with the team and hails from Medford, WI.
She is the first female Thunderbird pilot!

Being an Air Force man,i love your shots.
Great, thanks for your service!
Thank you all. I have tried some “birds in flight” so I had some basis for doing these. Much easier in many ways because they were at least predictable

Very nice work and what a wonderful place to shoot.
Thanks, we have two more trips coming up too!
Thanks! I knew that with the bright sky backlighting the planes they would be underexposed, so I added 2/3 stop of exposure compensation. With that they just needed a bit of tweaking in Lightroom

Fantastic images!
How did you get the planes' exposures to come out so well against a bright blue sky? Was it done manually or did you use AE with a stop or two lighter with a spot setting ?
That is one issue I've had at various air shows and fly-ins with different colored planes and types of sky. Yes, I know I have a lot to learn still but would appreciate any tips.
My first time photographing an air show, these are some of my first edits...
