Your experience was worth sharing, especially in a photography forum.

Anyone who did not find it informative/useful could have just read past it and onto another post.

Don't let the negataurs (negative dinosaurs) get you down.

If you download the Nikon software (free) your life will be easier.

I routinely use ViewNX-i to browse, move, cull out images (always raw), convert to TIFF, whatever needs done, including minor enhancements, exporting. (I'm sure I could use it to transfer from my SD card but find it easy to use File Manager.)

I feel ViewNX-i is very well laid out. I don't see the need for third party software but I also use Luminar, Aurora On1.

While I'm at it, for a DAM I use ThumbsPlus for all my document management, not just photos, from http://www.cerious.com/

I believe the benefits of the much improved D7500 over its predecessors far outweigh the infinitesimally small risk of a single card slot.

I have done professional photography for over 40 years and only had one roll of film in my camera at a time. With digital I only have used one slot at a time for over 15 years. I have no need for an additional slot.

Your loss, then. The new version of Luminar runs just fine on any decent system.

Incidentally, re: "taken at the maximum focal length" - I had the Tamron 100-400 at one point and although it is a fine lens I found that it lost a tad of sharpness around 350-360mm, as I think pretty much any zoom lens would. So, I would not judge the quality of the TC based at the maximum zoom of the lens.

I would first critically examine an image using just the lens, determine the best focus and only then add the TC and evaluate.

Thanks Bill. Never heard of Kenko but have just googled it and various photoshops in the UK stock them. Is it too much to ask you to PM me a photo taken at the maximum focal length? No worries if you prefer not to. I'm also presuming it will autofocus? Grace.

It most certainly autofocuses. Be my guest: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9r53p2qw7rjr24w/AAC9yvnefBxwt8nN4nkACU6xa?dl=0

There are suitable teleconverters where you can still autofocus...

Agreed.

The cable release is simply an extension of the shutter button. It will function as the shutter button functions, whatever it is set to do.

I have the Kenko 1.4x ( https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/674566-REG/Kenko_PRO3001_4XDGXN_Teleplus_PRO_300_DG.html ) and it mates well with my Nikon D7500.
Focuses well and the EXIF data reports the extended f-ratio and FL. I have used it extensively with a variety of lenses.

Could you provide a link to the website, please?
We have monthly star parties for mainly families and would love to have them see an event like this.

In fact, we're having one tonight and the timing may be just right (if it isn't scrubbed again).

Thanks,
Bill
