A7rIII Sweet!! A Hi-res version of the a9 with reduced shooting speed of 10fps -- for 2/3 of the price of the a9!!

Incredible!! Silent shooting up to 10fps. Over 2X the battery life of the a7rII, Ultra fast auto-focus,...

Well done Sony!! Two card slots, the a9 battery, Sony has listened... Incredible camera. Incredible option for Wedding and event photographers.

The a9 was the camera that proved Sony could easily stand shoulder to shoulder with the best Canon and Nikon had to offer (and that there was nothing that DSLRs could do that mirrorless couldn't do). Now we get almost the perfect camera for professional wedding/event photographers -- at a price that is right in the sweet spot for Wedding/event professionals.

Glad you are happy with your choice, I am also quite happy with my choice of being a CC subscriber for over 4 years now, I don’t worry about buying updates, never worry about missing out on the latest features and performance of the best & newest products, and am content knowing my Adobe products will always work with my OS and new camera.

BTW - subscription price has been exactly the same since I joined, for my 9.99 per month I get the latest Lightroom, Bridge, ACR, and of course the full Photoshop version.

Excellent! Glad you are happy with your choice. Hey -- we're both happy. :-)

Hey -- if you like what you're getting for $120 a year -- go for it!

You at UHH can make a difference. If you don't like the Adobe subscription model. There are choices and many great alternatives -- especially if you are an enthusiast, where cost may be a very important factor to you. Do you really want to pay $10 a month for software you might only use once a month? Do your research, know what's available, leverage the expertise of other UHH members.

In the end, if you don't like the Adobe model (which is very expensive) then vote with your feet! vote with your wallet! Competition is good -- it forces innovation.

Susan -- I'm not afraid. ;-) I went with PaintShop Pro a long time ago -- been extremely satisfied with my choice and never looked back. Adobe can do what they want -- but I refuse to get on that train.

Macphun announced they will be adding DAM (Digital Asset Management) to Luminar in 2018. Here are two links, one on Photo Rumors, and the other on Macphun's website.

There will be other options available for anyone not wanting to use either of Adobe's new versions of Lightroom Creative Cloud, or you can just continue to use whatever standalone version of LR you have now, just without any more updates at the end of 2017.

Excellent!! More options! Competition is great for the consumer.

UHH-- take action. I know many of you already have. Over the next few months -- research the alternatives. Switch away from Adobe.

Some of the people on this thread are right -- complaining about it won't help much -- vote with your feet! Vote with your wallet!

If you don't like the way Adobe does business don't fund them. I don't use Adobe. I refuse to fund them.

Todd is right -- you have a choice -- if you do not like the Adobe's subscription model -- don't buy Adobe.

We have a choice -- vote with your feet.

Folks -- let's do something about it! We can vote with our feet.

People are right Adobe can do what they want to do, however we also have a choice and we can decide what products we want to use. There are great alternatives.

I voted a long time ago. I use PaintShop Pro and do not use any Adobe products.

I agree with you, but at the same time I think this has some advantages. It will make it easier for others to develop and sell standalone programs. I know it will take some time, but probably within 2-3 years there will be a good standalone program or two that will replace lightroom for many users.

Maybe I'm mistaken -- but aren't there already at least to "standalone" competitors to Lightroom, i.e. PP software that is more like Lightroom than Photoshop.

The two that I am aware of are Capture One and AfterShot Pro 3.

So if you want to move away from Lightroom, no need to wait 2-3 years. :-)

btw: I'm not familiar with either of these packages, but have heard a lot of good things about both. From what I've seen and heard they both seem to be viable alternatives to Lightroom. Personally, I don't do a lot of batch processing of photos -- which these packages both excel at. (I'm a PaintShop Pro user -- so more into the Photoshop-type photo editor.)

Blood sucking? Isn't that a bit extreme? What else do you willingly spend $10/month on without complaining about blood sucking? The Happy Meal @ McD's? A coffee and doughnut at a diner?
A Latte @ Starbucks?

Bottom line is, Lightroom is the gold standard for photo editing. Everything else is just a less capable copy.

Yes -- the key word here is "gold" -- as in expensive.

Lots of murky and byzantine details, and amazed no one sent info on this out yet.

Today Adobe released some new pricing plans around Lightroom.

Buried in the byzantine details, is that Adobe is phasing out Lightroom standalone. :-(

Here are a few links:

https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/18/adobe-max-lightroom-cc-cloud-1tb/

https://www.cnet.com/news/adobe-lightroom-cc-faces-an-uphill-climb-photoshop-2018/

Looks like they still have the $10 a month plan, and they rolled out a new $20 a month plan -- the main addition for the $20 plan appears to be 1TB of cloud storage for that extra $10.

Personally -- I'm glad I'm not an Adobe user, plenty of great alternatives that are almost as good and way, way less expensive . It's only going to get worse going down the road. My prediction is that in two years or less the $10 a month plan will be the $11.99 or $12.99 a month plan.

HELL NO

And I ask this question. Where on the iPhone is the micro SD Card slot? I'll answer that one for everyone. There isn't one. Absolute Fail.

I remember when the Canon fans were beating up the Sony fans because most of the Sony's don't have a second card slot. Many even insisted with re: to event/wedding photography not having a second card slot was a showstopper. As a Sony fan I agree with the Canon fans on this -- I would not use a camera that didn't have a backup memory card for event/wedding photography. So I would not use a Sony unless it had a backup card slot like the Sony A9.

Failure by Apple for event/wedding photography -- no expandable memory.

Now who is kidding whom?

Yes -- I know we hashed this out two weeks ago and I agree that the photographer is most of the equation.

The question is still Why? Yes -- I can understand guests using smart phones, but when much better cameras are available (faster autofocus, off camera flash, superior optics, ...) why should a pro use a smart phone? And where is the backup SD card slot? -- especially with the iPhone -- no expandable storage? Absolute Fail.

I would fire a Pro if he showed up at my wedding with a smart phone -- just like I would fire a Pro if he showed up at my wedding with a Point & Shoot.

Here's another site that support tdekany's view that "most" of what it takes to take great photos has to do with photographer skill.

https://www.lomography.com/photos

You can easily buy a camera for a $100 or less (i.e. a cheap film camera) to get into Lomography.

And this is the extreme -- not even a smartphone required. :-)
