I shoot the Milky Way as well. I use a Rokinon 14 mm lens with a Canon R7 body. I process using Photoshop Elements with a final touch with Topaz DeNoise. I prefer the Milky way a little brighter and increase the saturation to bring out a little more red.

If these are your first shots I'd say you did really well. Work on the editing to bring up the brightness and saturation.... You're well on your way to getting some great shots! At least with digital it doesn't cost anything except your time.

Thanks so much! I’ll work on these and see what looks good.

Luminar 4 has a very easy to use erase function. You can eliminate the light.

Yes, I just didn’t get to it. I have used that. Thanks.

Thanks. Glad the camera saw the meteor. I didn’t!

I like to find the brightest star and do a live view and get as close as possible. Some people think you can put it on infinity, but not every lens is that accurate. Also there are vast distances between the moon and the bright star Sirius. You have to play with it on several shots.

I try to back off infinity just a bit. Also back off the reach a bit. Very tricky.

dbfalconer,
I am a native of Colorado and grew up in Glenwood Springs. We left the winter snow and ice a few years ago for the warm winters in Arizona. Currently in Casa Grande. We spent the last 7 years being vagabonds in our 5th wheel RV, but decided to take a break from that lifestyle.

I think I’d like to have been a vagabond for a while! My husband, not so much! We lived in Littleton 6 yrs, followed daughter and family to Salida last year. A big change! But we like it. Banana Belt winter with good skiing 20 minutes away!

Thank you! Easier to focus on the Dipper than the Milky Way mass!

Considering your first attempt, you did good. I also noticed the focus was slightly off, which for me is what I struggle with. Once you master that, your Milky Way photos should be excellent.

Thanks for the encouragement! So hard to focus!
Where are you in Colorado? I am in tiny Salida. Can’t find other hobby photographers around here. Or they are even older than I am and kind of ‘over it.’ So I appreciate your feedback.

All Stars seem to be outline circles with darker center? Due to processing?
Different from most Milky Way photos with star trails.

I’ll have to look at them more closely. Might have been from Sharpening? Increasing details? Thanks for noticing.

Thanks! I don’t have any local photo buddies so UHH is a great place to get some feedback.

Pretty good for a start...

Your focus was off by a bit but reasonable.

I'm one of those people that prefers a brighter Milky Way shot but everyone to their own.

bwa

Thanks. I played with brightening too. Easy to go too far!

We had fun that evening! I’m waiting for a new moon to do more Milky Way shots too. I posted 3 today.
