Such endearing renderings of these Lovely Young Ladies Chip...
Guessing from the catch lights and nose shadows that you used two strobes/speedlites with the Key Light high on camera right... stellar loop lighting that truly complements and enhances...

Please keep in mind as a Commercial Photographer you'll want to be thinking of the following Major Life Events.

Graduation Event: (High School and/or College)
Engagement: Save the Date Session
Wedding Event: Most challenging and typically highest recompense
Maternity Session: Affords you a stellar opportunity to showcase your photographic artistry
New Born Session: Typically dominated by Lady Photographers albeit it's a favorite of mind

Bottom Line Chip? Clients for Life...
Hope this helps...
Wishing you much Joy and Success on your photographic journey

Likely the most cherished and oft used piece of Kit in my Studio...
This cost effect incident light meter can (and does) save a HUGE amount of Setup and Calibration time for a multi-strobe scenario... It is so important to my work flow that I have backup copy in case one goes down (batteries get weak etc.) during a session in real-time.

BTW: Do you have the Sekonic Lumidisc for L-308 Series Light Meters that shipped with this unit?
While I don't shoot location assignments anymore it is required to take "Reflected" light readings...

This small, lightweight and compact Sekonic meter is all you need to do serious studio work...
Built to last... Mine are over a decade old and never a problem.

Here is the User Manual for the Sekonic L-308 Series Light Meters.

Hope this helps...

"The amateurish need to mimic "test analysis sites" is just theatre or fantasy. Its nowhere close to being legit knowledgeable testing that needs only a few minor flaws straightened out. Discussing said flaws is pretty pointless. Discussing such "reported results" is equally pointless.

Look at the example photos provided in this instance. Theyre just laffable. Clearly user error is way too obviously in the mix here. Theres nothing to pick apart and analyze. Its just trash "science" worthy to be ignored."

"What ever solutions / suggestions have been offered so far - NOTHING can make up for the difference in zoom capability. I realized this twenty years ago, and nothing has changed. For me, a zoom lens with over over 3x will not give the sharpness that I sometimes need - although I have had up to 5x, I would not have considered shooting with anything longer."

Rather compelling evidence of individuals who possibly suffers from a Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

What are the DSM 5 diagnostic criteria for narcissistic personality disorder?

"NPD in DSM-5. NPD is diagnostically defined in the DSM-5 (APA 2013; pages 669-672) as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy, with interpersonal entitlement, exploitiveness, arrogance, and envy. Five out of nine of these criteria need to be present to meet the diagnosis of NPD."

How does a therapist identify a narcissist?

"Narcissists never want to be responsible unless everything goes their way. They often place all the blame and responsibility on someone else to maintain their own façade of perfection. Narcissists lack boundaries. They believe that everything belongs to them and everyone thinks and feels the same as they do."

Enough said...
Hope this may help others here on UHH better understand the blatant lack of social etiquette and want of compassion for other UHH members who may be somewhat naive in the theory of photographic art & science...

Sadly this emotional health affliction has become a pervasive malignancy on UHH...
I've watched if slowly become a dominate communicational paradigm over the past several years here.
Thus the reason I've migrated to flickr where members are above such a petty niggling mindset.

If you are seriously focused on photographic excellence then please consider joining me on flickr
Wishing all here much Joy and success in your photographic journey...

Understood John... patience is a virtue.... Should we get into another Pandemic cycle everything could change (and very quickly) Experienced ICU talent are so very precious thus she would be a prime candidate if/when the Hospital's case load increase for critically compromised patients...

Another avenue your granddaughter might want to look into is obtaining CCRN Certification which validates an RN's knowledge of nursing care of acutely/critically ill patients to hospital administrators, peers, patients and, most importantly, to your granddaughter herself. CCRN Certification promotes continuing excellence within the critical care nursing field.

Here is a link to the CCRN Certification credential requirements...

John there is only one step higher than a CCRN Certification... And it is a herculean step indeed!
That being a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) are the highest-paid position in the field of nursing. Far higher than any other Nursing Credential.... Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists typically earn $203,090 annually, thus CRNAs earn significantly more than any other type of nurse or nursing specialty... Period!

I can't in good faith recommend this career path, only mention it's existence....
Those who can endure the trials & tribulations of obtaining (at a minimum) a Master's Degree (and soon to be required) at Doctorate Degree should even think about this seriously...

The only major difference between a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and an Anesthetist is that the later requires completion of Three Years of Residency in a Hospital... Thus a CRNA is in essence a highly trained medical professional at nearly the same level as a Medical Doctor. CRNA are allowed to administer Anesthesia to patients WITHOUT being under the supervision of a Licensed Medical Doctor... Enough Said.

Wishing your granddaughter much Joy and success on her epic career journey...
She's literally one in a million in my mind's eyes and a gift to all those in need of highly skilled medical intervention.

John please give your granddaughter my best regards on her choice of career paths...
Yes ICU Nurses oft transition into other synergistic fields (med-surg) being one...

A med-surg Nurse... commonly known as a Scrub Nurse or more formally as a Perioperative Nurse and as such is an integral part of an Operating Team, i.e. the team cannot function without them... the other key Nurse player aboard is the circulating nurse...

All team members work in harmony with the Anesthesiologist & Surgeon in a finely balanced production where each player works in synergy with all others. The dramatic difference from an ICU Nurse is the they are primarily in sole control of the patient's condition in real-time. In this scenario there is Zero Tolerance for error or omission... While their patient's vitals are monitored and available at the Nursing Station on the "Floor" this just isn't the same... even with high/low alarms being set a patients can (and do) "crash" silently... besides there are so many subtle signs of impending disaster... such as the rhythmic rise & fall of the chest cavity, the face drooping or slurred speech (a result of a Stroke in progress)... there are virtually no substitutes for the keen skills an ICU nurse...

The ICU Nurse will always be the Ultimate Guardian at the gate to thwart the grim reaper's attempts to snatch away the seriously compromised and vulnerable... A sole sentinel always on active duty to protect and ferry out of harm's way...

I'm forever humbled by those who chose this noble calling...
Thank you for sharing your granddaughter mission purpose John...
It means more to me then you might image...
Cheers! Thomas

Thank you so much for your kind words Don...
As always I deeply appreciate your visiting my posts since it gives me a reason to view your Epic vintage Sports Cars in your flickr feed... I'm a major fan of Jaguar and have fixated on them during and ever since my college years.

As for saving lives? It is an ICU Nurse that probably logs more "CODES" i.e. cardiopulmonary arrest than any other medical professional... Word! It is there where even seconds count, they alone often make the critical difference in the ultimate outcomes... enough said.

Both of those professional models have extensive track records of outstanding success...
They both are extremely savvy in "Set Etiquette"; have a deep repertoire; and excellent range of motion with true body awareness. And most importantly the ability of visualizing a narrative to underscore it's meaning and translate same into a compelling editorial exposé

Currently an ICU Nurse... with a lightening quick mind... decisive, with flawless execution and graduated at the very top of her class with honors

Do you think it is possible to attract younger members to UHH?
Mike why would you want to expose youth to the disgusting hardcore pornographic posts that occur on the Boudoir, NSFW Photography forum... a.k.a. detailed depictions of sexual organs masquerading as Fine Art.

Or the neurotic and/or psychotic posts that occur in the Attic forum?

In my humble estimation UHH is at the very low end of socially acceptable portals...
At one time (when I first became a member) there were talented commercial shooters (Steve Perry comes to mind)
They are mostly long gone, and for very compelling reasons...
However the Sports Forum still has commercial shooters posting outstanding work.

Best Advice? Make like a Hockey Player Mike and get the Puck off UHH and open an account on IG (there you will find the youth of this country) btw, the average age of my Studio Team is 22 years, and we typically book sessions with 12 to 16 year old talent.

Why do I continue here? To maintain credibility for my posts in the Buy/Sell forum where I have to compete with the eBay sellers that now are posting there. At the end of the day it's all about Money to them... with little if any regard to photographic excellence...

However if you are actually interested in photographic excellence then please go back to your flickr Pro account Mike it is there if/when you decide to take photography seriously...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/145186988@N05/albums/72157713414159372

However I question if your visual statement and/or choice of narratives is sufficient to attract the level of responses you get here on UHH so could this be the reason you continue to hang out on UHH where the bar is very low and it's all about Kit not photographic excellence?

btw, how many tear sheets or images published in print or online did you get Named Credits for in 2023 Mike?
Enough said...

"much prefer this kind of photography to the landscapes of Adams."
Agreed, albeit two totally different genres...

The diversity and surreal emotional impact truly take his work to the zenith of our craft...
So Timeless... So Poignant...

Had several posters of Elliot's work on my tiny apartment's wall during my years at the University of Maryland...
That is where I became hopelessly infatuated with Art & Craft of photography...
Never recovered, still afflicted with the same intense desire to create & master the craft...

Elliot is a true giant of lifestyle genre...
Only Dorothea Lange lifestyle collection towers above him...

Dorothea's work captures the very essence i.e. soul of her subjects with such visual impact that etches her "minds eye" so vividly into your conscience you never ever forget...

Lange’s Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California (1936) is the most iconic image depicting the Great Depression. The image “exists in more formats, prints, and places than (arguably) any other photograph in the world”

The resulting photograph captures 32-year-old migrant worker Florence Owens Thompson with her two daughters. Lange cropped the image closely, focusing in on Owens’ furrowed brow, her dirt-dusted fingers, and the tousled hair of her children who huddle against her—details that communicate weariness, affection, and deep human bonds.

Many thanks to all for sharing...

Jimmy the good news is you've nail focus on the floral display...
Albeit it's a tad under exposed... Typically when shooting "Still Life" a photographer will do a series of brackets and select the most appropriate and germane exposure (for the subject).

However in your initial capture here I believe you may have the floral display too close to the background which is casting a very distinct and annoying shadow on same... EZ fix? Move the floral display further from the background and use a longer focal length of your lens (assuming you are using zoom optics) or a longer prime.

Next soften the key light by bouncing it off a reflector (or shooting thru a scrim etc.)
It would help if you shared your f/? Stop and Focal Length? (and lens type) so other posters can provide meaningful guidance....

I've always found an example to be worth a Thousand Words so I've posted an example of a "static" subject taken with a long focal length... Illumination? Key light here is a collapsible silver/white reflector (72") held by our lighting assistant on this assignment. You can clearly see the oval reflector "Catch Light" in this talent's eyes. Camera: Nikon D3; SS: 1/250; ISO: 100; Lens: AF 300mm f/2.8 Tokina; at f/3.2; on a Sirui P-324 MonoPod

You can see more of Samantha's Fashion Editorials at Samantha Miller T.H.E. Artist Agency; Washington, DC

Hope this helps Jimmy or is at least food for thought?
Wishing you much Joy and Success on your photographic journey
Cheers! Thomas

Welcome to UHH Joseph...
Loving your Volleyball pivotal moment, excellent composition, stellar narrative so beautiful done
As Don mentioned you'll likely want to check out UHH's Sports Photography Forum

Be advised this forum contains one of the best aggregate of Commercial Photographers on UHH so you'll be in with a tough crowd there. Lot's of Z9 shooters... and very little BS, only Epic Publication Quality imagery.

That said, keen competition breeds excellence... Always has and likely always will..
Speaking of which if you want to find those who truly work at the zenith of our craft look to flickr...
There you can search using flickr's superb tools to ferret out precisely the genre and Kit you're interested in...

Wishing you much Joy and financial success on your Sports Shooter career journey Joseph.
Cheers! Thomas

Jules long ago I learned an epic kludge from a commercial shooter I was assisting... We had the herculean task of doing team portraiture on the fly... a.k.a. without much time for setup and/or adjusting equipment (wasn't in the budge). Soooo he simply set his white point on the off an aggregate statistical readings of the Sclera latent within the groups of players. Obviously shooting RAW and taking care not to "Clip" the highlights the results were simply amazing... I've duplicated this myself many times on portrait session... You will be surprised at how close you can nail WB off the Sclera (especially of young adults)... With age the aforemention begins to fall apart so you've been warned here to only use with healthy young adults (also many illnesses and even controlled substance abuse may (and often will) invalidate the results).

btw. ask any commercial "retoucher" and they will tell you that it's SOP to de-saturate and/or brighten the Sclera (within moderation obviously) to have the subject "Pop" in the image...

Or maybe just avoid poorly lit gyms? That's been my workaround for decades (I never shoot in a gym) lol

Hope this helps Jules and please keep up your stellar work in the "Sports" genre!

My primary documentation source here is current AI research published 01 March 2018 by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK):
https://ietresearch.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1049/iet-ipr.2017.0182
It's an awesome read... Amazing how innovative this research actually is...
Especially revealing is how Sclera colours form a compact cluster in xyY colour space

Please review this literature if you are serious about understanding the direction AI is taking in the photographic rendering arts... (This actually may require a health amount of college level mathematics in order to get your head completely around the research methodologies used)

Serious Alert here... Please be prepared for a Wedding Event

If/when so I would highly recommend
Professional Techniques for the Wedding Photographer – by George Schaub (Author)
I have his January 1, 1985 version, studied it from cover to cover...
https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Techniques-Wedding-Photographer-George/dp/0817456015
It's a God Send for someone in your situation.
Thankfully George isn't trying to sell Kit, nothing but the facts and oh my goodness George certainly covers Wedding events with superb skill and knowledge.

I've deployed his wisdom time and time again...
Trust me, shooting a Wedding Event is akin to herding cats in the rain...

As a bridal makeup artist I get to deal with the bride and her maids while they are sober BEFORE the event...
As a Wedding Photographer I have had to deal with inebriated boisterous wedding families and guests far too often!

You've been warmed so please be prepared and know your kit well!
(btw, having a second shooter is an absolute must, not simply an option)...

Wishing you much joy and success with your granddaughter's journey
Thank you so much for sharing those endearing images...

Hello pvup
Welcome to the UHH...
I'm a big fan of Hello Kitty
And my Granddaughter loves Adorable KT Cat Plush Dolls...
I'm also a fan of Anime Art which btw is highly popular in Japan!

Please keep posting here and try to ignore the Geriatric Crowd.
Sadly they may be in need of special Geriatric care...
a.k.a. they have likely gone off their prescription meds... Compliance can be a serious issue for Geriatric patients .
Maybe just feel sorry for them, k?
