Hi all. New here!
I have a Nikon Z and I just purchased a low-cost FTZ adaptor that only works on manual focus. All my old Nikon lenses work except the one I really got the adaptor for a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm. Am I doing something wrong? (besides not buying a Nikon FTZ adapter. Money is tight nowadays)
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to UHH! If the adaptor for your Z camera was $20 or less, you received a "dumb" adaptor without any built-in electronics. I have some that I use to adapt some early Nikon film lenses to be used manually on my Z5 body.

When I first bought my Z5, it was refurbished by Nikon and I also bought two Nikon FTZ adaptors on eBay which cost much less than the going price for a new one: one for $160 and then waited for another at $120. For a while, the FTZ adaptor was free with a purchased higher-priced Z camera and also came out with a version 2 that had a removable tripod mount. Thusly, many are now on the pre-owned market at a reduced price from the OEM price of $250.

BTW, you should check for yourself but I believe your lens requires a "screw-drive" DSLR body-mounted pin to fully use the AF and controls. Check Nikon's website for a list of useable lenses with the FTZ adaptor. The lenses that fully work are AF-S D, G types, etc. I wish Nikon would come out with an adaptor that allowed such lenses to be used!

...I have several HGST 1TB and 4TB drives, but I just ordered an HGST 8TB Helium drive. I read reviews, and it's a good drive, selling for $600 originally. I just ordered a "Renewed" one from Amazon for $75, delivered. All the HGST drives I have are "Renewed," and not one has failed over several years of use. I'm hoping to organize a good storage/backup system.

I have an old LaCie box, but the computer doesn't see it. I'll have to work on that.

Jerry!

Thanks for the tip about the HGST 8T Helium Drive. They are now 69.95 from Amazon! I'll try them!

BTW, here's a YouTube video I just viewed yesterday about detecting an "undetected" hard drive in your computer by Britec who provides good info and advice:

My question is: when posting my images on social media should I disclose that the image was modified?...

What is the right approach? Disclose that I edited the image, or just don't say anything?

damianlv!

All camera images are "Edited" whether one is aware of it or not! The jpeg image you see on the camera screen and also embedded in a raw file has been processed by the camera to the OEM's specs and color space. You can also individualize the image(s) by using a camera's "Picture Control (Nikon)," menu settings to change the color balance and other characteristics of the image: "Auto, Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait or Landscape." Each category can be further determined by + and - : "Sharpening, Clarity, Contrast, Brightness, Saturation and Hue.

You can even do more after taking your image by using the "Retouch" menu: "Trim (Crop), Resize, D-Lighting, Red-eye Correction, Straighten, Distort, Perspective Control, Monochrome and Image Overlay!"

To confess or not? It's an individual decision but think about a viewer's eyes when they glaze over by the description of what you did in editing rather than just enjoying the image for what it is!

With Fuji cameras, you do the same but the images take on characteristics of Fuji's legacy color films:

Easy Peasy!

After opening your email, click on the "Printer" icon in the upper right corner! You'll get a new window with an image of the email without the borders, windows and other junk from your browser along with a smaller window with several buttons. Click on the upper button, "Destination" to send the email to your location as a PDF, to the printer or somewhere else and then click at the bottom: "Save."

Be well!

I'll take them! How would you like payment? A check and shipping after it's processed or Paypal? I've transacted over a dozen offers with other Hoggers and also offer bona fides below in my signature block.

Thanks and be well! Ed

Thanks for the link! Great vistas of the Pacific Northwest and very interesting commentary on the many floods there. Unfortunately, I'll never get there to photograph them!

Does anyone remember how banks functioned before the age of computers? I was going through an old cardboard box and found my Bank Account booklet from 1973, some 50 years ago. I recall that I had a banking booklet associated with the account. When I went in to make a deposit or withdrawal, the teller would take the booklet, open to the next available page, insert the booklet into a machine, tell the machine what line number on that page was next to be used, and then record the date, deposit or withdrawal, and the account balance. My, how times have changed!

I grew up in the Bronx, the northernmost borough of NYC, a neighborhood bank, I forget the name began to open on Saturdays, so I opened a savings account to be able to access cash for the weekend.

Remember the term, "Bankers Hours?" Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM! Closed on weekends!

And now ATMs are ubiquitous, every store and restaurant, at least here in NYC has one, small independent ones in a corner of stores, terminals, etc. while major banks have their own system of kiosks and small stores.

I agree! Very often I order big and heavy items such as 50lb bags of snow and ice remover:

PELLETS OF FIRE BDL-A0093 Calcium Blend Professional Grade Ice Melt, Negative 25-Degree Effectiveness, Melter, 50 Pounds, Blue Tint

I ordered 3 and delivery was painless!

I have owned any number of Nikon cameras since 1966. I have NEVER needed Nikon, or any other, customer service. I can't help if Canon customer service is really busy...Dennis

Dennis!

I agree! My first Nikon was the F, then Photomic FTn, a few Nikkormats, a couple of N80s. Digitally, Nikon Coolpix 4300, D70, D200, D300, D700, D3, a couple of D3s, D3x, D800, a couple of D810s and now a Z5 with several FTZ adaptors. Along the way, I picked up a Canon 1Ds Mk3, 5D Mk2 and a couple of SL1s. Maybe, I've been lucky, I've never needed either Nikon or Canon Services!

As someone said earlier, as a professional, let your clients pay for your equipment! Oh, still shooting every week
and I'm still having fun with all my cameras!
