I sent 1+ 4 others on two emails, but they so not seem to appear anywhere. I received an email about sending photos as attachments but haven't figured out how to do that yet with iPhoto nor Aperture. I will get to the bottom of it soon. Thanks for your interest.
PS I think that I just found out how to do it.

As a retired Mac consultant, let me share a system that works well for me.

Drag a file from iPhoto to the desktop (This is a copy). Upload the copy then trash it. You never need to look for files through layers of folders. It's always on the desktop. The same thing with screenshots. <Command><Shift>4 gives you a cross-hair cursor and puts the result on the desktop (See attached)

Files left on the desktop are trashable. Drag that file into your Mail document to send as an attachment. Trash it when done.

#1, iPhoto is the world's greatest shoe box. throw everything at it . . . from a 30-megabyte NEF to a dinky little jpeg dragged from a web site.

#2 Aperture and iPhoto can share the same libraries (note the plural) You can create as many libraries as you want.

Then we get to Photoshop. Each file or groups of files go into a projects folder in my Documents folder. Working versions don't get lost. Here's an example. I'm doing a cookbook in InDesign. As I make Photoshop files, the Originals stay pure and chaste in the Originals folder. The final version used in the book is in the Images folder.

Contest winner. Prize photoshopped in for clarity.

Someone asked if I would post a photo. How do I do this? Your good advice desired!

Below the text box are "Choose File" buttons.

I beat you here by a couple days. I guess that makes me an old-timer.

Similar to your experience, my first "real" camera (1959) after my parents' Duaflex II was a folding 120 size with different shutter speeds, aperture settings and even a delay timer!! Wowee!

I just bought myself a Nikon D5200 and also find myself daunted by all the capability.

Posted is a sample of my wife's art (RitaReed.com) taken with my new toy

From my wife's 'Light Shift' Series

Why don't you engage your brain instead of your a**e you are coming out with a right load of waffle, go and get your nap pie changed

Granddad, you are a master of the obtuse use of colloquialisms which, instead of lending credence to your post, does quite the opposite.

By reducing the angle at which "stray" light can enter a lens, image contrast is increased. Even a small degree of flare can reduce contrast. Stray light is that which is unwanted, that degrades, rather than enhances an image.

Ah. I should have figured that one out.

Thanks.

your lenshood should remain on your lens at all shooting venues, moreso at indoor events as contrast is improved, and helps keep out stray light

How does a lens hood improve contrast?

Everyone's cell phone camera has replaced graffiti (Kilroy was here.) Its pictures tell friends that you were there during an event and here's the pic to prove it.

Here's a pic my wife took of a contest winner holding the prize. There is no way a "photographer" would have accepted this setup. Photoshop can do wonders, but there are limits.

So what will be the outcome of an umpteen megapixel phone cam in everyone's hands? Lots and lots of bad pictures.

And a certain number of those phonetographers will look at the work of real photographers and take the first, halting steps in learning the tools of the photographic artist.

The second set:

Sample A is brighter and has more vibrant color.

Sample B is darker and has a yellow caste.

Sharpness is as close to identical as one could hope for.

If you're going to make a decision, it has to be on the usefulness of the physical camera. Which one feels better to you?
