Great shot, John. I can remember my father preparing our family garden every year with a hand tiller and a hoe.

Thanks, John.

The other side of the coin is that your grandfather's farm is now part of this guy's farm and that's why he needs this type of equipment. Not a bad thing but reality. What we need to do is keep our farmland in our hands, not those of foreigners.

Agreed. Actually this one is still mine, and my guy cash rents the land.

Nice shots, John. I never farmed but my grandfather had 1 horse, a turning plow, furrow plow and a drag harrow. He plowed about 10-12 acres with that combo growing corn, cotton and a garden. He did have a cotton stalk chopper. I still love seeing the farms and farmers but sadly they are going away.

Thanks, and the farmers are becoming fewer and fewer while getting bigger and bigger.

That's quite some building - it could possibly be reimagined as an event venue.

It's a beautiful barn. I had a small roof problem with my barn and for years I tried to get someone to fix it. No one would. Then it because a huge problem, nearly falling down, and I paid thousands to get it rebuilt! Fix-it guys don't want to do small jobs. So they wait until they become huge problems!

Thanks for looking, and sorry for your problems. That doesn't happen too often around here because we have an Amish group of barn builders in the general area who seem to be up to tackling any project.

Is the roof shakes or sheet metal?

It's interesting. The tall part of the barn seems to have a shake roof that has ben coated with tar, and the long back part seems to have slate-coated roll roofing, applied vertically, that has also been coated with tar.

I have never seen one like that. I plan to go there and ask the owners if I can take a closer look at the barn, and perhaps the inside. I am not hopeful, though, because there are no trespassing and stay out signs all along the road at the place.
