I find myself drawn to both their expressions and I like the drama of the B&W.

Thank you for your input, pasta gal. I'm half Italian and LOVE pasta so I always smile when I see your name.

My eye is drawn to the dog first...then to the man's face.

Thank you and welcome to the UHH. I'm new here myself and really enjoy it.

I see this gentleman and his dog on the waterfront occasionally and asked permission last night to take their picture. I took the shot in color and thought the gentleman was my main subject. When I got home, I converted to B&W and now feel the dog is my main subject. What do you think?

The black and white gives it more character.

Thank you for your response. I took it in color but had a chance to study it when I got home. The dog has a proud stance and the gentleman is looking at him so I felt the dog had become my subject. That's why I tried the black and white and it seemed to put the spotlight on the dog where I now think it belongs.

I took a picture of this gentleman and his friend on the waterfront this evening, with his permission. I took it in color then did a black and white conversion. I'm new to this and wondered which one you prefer, if either. I'm not ready for a full blown critique but would welcome any pointers you offer.

On vacation at Bethany Beach in Delaware, I did a family photo shoot on the beach. These are some of my favorites of the kids.

Beautiful shots of beautiful children. I love your creative poses. There is nothing more fun than photographing family. Thanks for sharing.

This is Oscar. I was dog sitting him today. And he fell asleep on the couch and in my spot on the couch. It's a big close up of him. Hope everyone likes him.
Enjoy

I recently read about something called a expo disc and have been reading up a little on the matter and wondered if there was anyone out there with experience of the use of these Expodiscs.
One query i have is: is there one for different required outcomes?

I've used an Expodisc for years and like it. Very simple to use in any lighting situation. Expodisc just snaps onto the front of the lens. You face the direction the light is coming from, not your subject. Set your white balance for custom (preset on my Nikon) hold down the white balance button on your camera until it flashes 'preset' then take a shot. Camera tells you shot was okay and you're good to go. This sounds like a lot but it takes less than a minute. Especially helpful when you're switching light sources - inside to outside, etc.

Gosh it gets so confusing - the more you read and research the worse the headache gets.

I am currently looking for a 50mm prime for my D5200 and cannot decide let between these too (so far)

Nikon 50mm f1.8 afs

or
]Nikon f1.4 g 50mm af-s

mainly for portrait work and of course depth of feild I am also interested to know if anyone has used either of the above with a reversing ring for macro shots

I have the 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8. I bought the 50 first and like it but if I were doing it again, I would get the 1.8. The 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8 are two of the nicest prime lenses Nikon makes. I use the 85 1.8 the most for portrait work. It's an excellent lens - really sharp. Good luck.

Opinions would be appreciated :)

I'm already a fan of your work, Maggie, and find these photos up to your usual high standard of excellence. Your baby photos all have a soft lighting and warm glow that you've also extended to these photos. You have a beautiful style that's evident in all your photographs. Thanks for sharing your work.

We are avid Pats fans and finally able to see our players up close! Here are a few shots I took with my Nikon P510....please share your thoughts.

I'm sitting here watching ihe Pats play the Lions as I read your post. Your pictures are great but I think we might be in for some real problems this season. Offense doesn't look good tonight. Brady taking too many hits on an already weakened knee. Keep posting those great Patriots pictures. Go Pats!

These are photos from Sturgis this year. Any help in improving my photography skills would be appreciated. This is the first time I have posted photos and I am relatively new to this hobby.

Liked your pictures and took a lesson in portrait shooting from your example. Extremely well done. Thanks for sharing.
