I changed angles.
Instead of being on the same plane, I shot these looking down, at about a 45 degree angle

It's 9:30 pm here. I just got done with some splash shots. I will be posting them. I bought a 10 gallon fish tank and a stand. I will be heading for the bathroom and seeing what havoc I can wreak there. Pictures will follow.

I used the Miops splash for these.
A Canon 1D Mark III, and a Tamron G2 90 mm f/2.8 Macro lenes.
I gave up on the Miops camera /flash fired feature. I could never quite get it right.
One of the reason I used the 1D is, it shoots 10 frames a second.
So here is what I did, I have a wireless SMDV remote trigger [ I recommend this one ] I kept pressing the trigger button the same time I released the drop, using a downloaded app. You can use a phone or a pad for the app.
It would fire off shots all the time the water dropped and splashed.
Here is a trick for focusing. I put a wooden ruler [you can use anything, a pencil ] on top of the glass about 2/3's back. I held it on edge and the dialed in the focus.
Each shot has different settings, thats just something you have to adjust on your own.

Nice set. For even an even more natural look, try lowering the saturation.

Great shots. I bought a MIOPS Splash. There is a app you can download to your phone, that triggers the unit This was a early setup. I moved the glass into a light box, I got rid of the little tripod, I had to the chains for a counter weight. The lighting is way different. It is fun. Each shot is different.

Unless you are willing to spend a whole lot of money for a ring light don't buy one.
And I am not even sure about the ones that cost a arm and a leg
The cheap ones are just that cheap.
I was looking to buy one, I googled it and I read about them. I watched youtube videos and decided against buying one.
A youtube video by the Angry Photographer was informative and pretty much confirmed what I had read.
He called them junk and I have to agree.
I am completely OCD. It bugs me to see light or flash reflections on my subject.
Ring lights or a Ring Flash will give you that
I have a 1d bodies, no pop up flash.
I use a 580 EX II and a soft box. It works for outside Macro.
Inside I invested in 4 light stands, softboxs and LED 100 watt 5200k bulbs. Not the curly ones, they have seriously bad posionious stuff inside them, but the ones that look like bulb.
It takes a little more effort to set up a shot, but for me it is woth it.

I own and use 3 "older" Canon 1D bodies.
The original 1Ds, a IDs Mark III and a 1D Mark III.
When new these 3 cameras were about $20,000.
I paid 1,350 for the 3 of them.
They are still pro caliber cameras.
I have owed a used 10D, 50D and a 5D.
I like the weight and feel of a 1D body.
The others felt like toys.
I am 65 and can still hold those cameras with a 2.8 70-200 mm L.
If anyone of the III's break I would replace it with the same model

Unless you are going to spend a lot of money for a filter. Do not use one.
Would you buy a Ferrari and put cheap Wal-Mart tires on it?
Same with a pro lens.

THE RULES
The Bragging Rites Ceremony will begin at Midnight.
The rites will consist of:
Forming a circle around the LAST, newest, fastest, more bells and whistles, most pixels camera, ever known to mankind.
The group will be allowed to bash the camera verbally and physically
After a pre-determined time.
The attendees will remove their clothes, dance naked around the camera while it burns,
Chanting Hail Canon ,[or Hail Nikon, ect... depending on the camera].
The music must included Paul Simons Kodachrome. Any other photography themed songs are highly recommended.
Any song played by Justin Beaver, will make this ceremony dull and void.
Strobe lights will be in full effect.
The dancing must continue until they all fall down.
All rites must be strictly be adhered too.
Any failure to do so, St Veronica, the Patron Saint of Photography [ this is not a joke, I googled it ] will not bless the newest, fastest, most coolest camera ever.
Punch and cucumber sandwich's will be served after the event.
Please Note:
Due to the graphic and deeply spiritual nature of this Rite, [ not to mention possible blackmail pictures] no personal cameras are allowed

First off, I would like say thanks for the replies.
Secondly, mine aren’t all that great.
Not yet. Being about 87% ocd, I will not quit until they are.
I have about 1 in ten almost keeper rate.
I need to narrow that down a little.

The People in Utah are the largest consumers of green jello, in America
I have no idea why I know that. I just just do.

I used a Canon 1D Mark III and a Canon 580 EX II Flash.
A Tamron G2 90 mm macro lens at f/8
A tripod.
And finally, a MIOPS Splash unit.
It was around 125 dollars with the "arm".
Probaly one of the cheapest things I have bought concerning photography
I can control the unit, with a downloaded app on my ipad.
I truly despise cell phones, but you can use a iphone or a android phone.
I tried different speeds, these were at 50/th of sec. ISO 640
Green food coloring in the glass.
The flash and I had issues. I tried both 1st and 2nd curtain.
It seemed to flash to early, leaving me with a perfect picture of a glass of green water.
My wife gave me a light box. It came with 2 led light strips.
I placed them around the glass, and set my MIOPS to camera, and finally got these shots.
It's still a work in progress, there are blown out spots.
I shoot in standard mode. Post production, I amped up the saturation to 15. Vib. about the same.
I cropped to get rid of the blown out spots and tinkered with sliders to try to reduce them
I am a night owl, and do some of my weirdest work late at night.
I am going to try to get better results in the daylight.
I also bought the MIOPS lighting trigger, It has all kinds of differt modes.
As soon as I get the drops figured out,
I ordered about a 1,000 water ballons from Amazon. And will be dropping them into a claw foot bathtub.
I picked up a 10 gallon fish tank. To drop anything I can think of, that will create a cool shot and splash
I'm thinking apples and tennis balls dropped into water kinda things
And I would love to hear anyone's suggestions for more ideas.
Life could take a turn for the strange around here.
