Al Gore is once again pushing his Cap and Trade carbon tax agenda. I wonder why? Could it be that he really cares about the earth even though the global warming people Fudged the numbers? Or, could it be that he is a founding member of the Chicago Carbon Exchange and would make millions if it starts trading in carbon? Oh, you’ll never guess who one of the attorneys was that set it up. Your president!

I am terribly puzzled.
Cap and Trade is based on monetary reward; a very capitalistic premise.

So, why is it opposed by repubs?
And did not repubs originally propose it in the Reagan Administration and actually put in place by GW Bush?

Why is it poison now?

Like all think tank programs, they evolve exponentially, once they can be maneuvered and schemed into money for the likes of Al Gore. Basically Cap & Trade will allow the EPA to fine polluters. The main polluters will be your neighborhood Utility. Since the government, has, within a few percentage points, maxed out its ability to take any more of our income without a riot. They will fine the Power Companies, depending on their Carbon profile, could be a Billion dollars or more. They will pay the fine to the Federal Government & then cover the fine in your monthly bill. Most estimates , it will double your rate. So the Government will collect Billions, you & I will pay. They just won't have to call it a tax. As far as the Chicago Carbon exchange, that person is correct. After being fined & paying. The Utility will also have to buy Carbon Credits from the exchange. The credits consist of parcels of forest, purchased by Investors, nothing more than trees. Each tree represents a Carbon Credit, The Power Company buys, the owners of these trees profit & you & I pay through the nose, for nothing. Nothing changes. The Power Companies continue to pollute, but because they buy these credits and pay the fines, they continue to operate as usual. Its just you & I who actually will pay if Cap & Trade is passed. Just like Health Care its just another form of taxation.

Reguarding Saraphoto's disastores trip to the Galopodos Islands, what is a good insurance company here in the US ?

I have both homeowners & Mack Camera, Springfield NJ, Insurance Policies. My brand new 5D Mark III became water damaged at a shoot, rain, humidity, sent it back to Canon, they said not covered, Took it to Mack, their policy covers water damage, they sent it back to Canon, and payed $1,150.00 to have it refurbished to new. No cost to me, no deductible. They state worlds largest. Its a three year policy, no strings. $345.00 for 3 years. Homeowners, mostly lost or stolen with deductible.

Steve, when you say sensitive position, were you speaking literally or sexually or both?

I am going to Sedona and Grand Canyon later this month. I have a Tamron 18-270mm, and am thinking of renting something a little wider. Does anyone have any experience with either the Sigma or Canon? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Took these just before "Sandy" with the Sigma 10-20

You have to look at what happens to employers with 50 or more employees. They are the ones that get killed by Obama Care.

You may have missed the part where the teacher told her that Romney & Ryan on her shirt was the same as someone wearing
a "KKK" shirt. She then brought a hall monitor in with a marking pen & tried to have the names written over. Told her that the Phila School system was all Democratic and that shirt was an insult to her. brought other teachers in to ridicule the 10 year old girl, and had other students do the same. Imagine the reverse. A white teacher black student. Hate Crime. The teacher would be gone the next day. The quality and lack of Certified teachers has Philly ranked near the bottom in Public Education. With a 3 Billion Budget. $22,000.00 per student 40% drop out rate they are asking for more money. If the Phila Public School System was a Corporation it would have been bankrupted 40 years ago.

I had a theater dress rehearsal shoot yesterday and needed to test out my higher ISO settings on my MKIII. All natural light. I listed the camera settings for a sample if anyone has to do this type of shoot. Its basically out of the camera(I have to remove the white area on the upper right). I was pretty impressed with the quality at ISO 6400. No flash was allowed.

Camera is in AV mode

ISO is 6400

FSTOP F2.8.
Focal length was 125mm on a Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS II
Shutter was at 1/320 (Varied constantly because of the lighting changes)

I used center weighted average metering all night.
If anyone has comments on how they shoot these types of events, feel free to post examples and settings including camera and Lens used.

Was in NY, a Sunday, went to the B&H store in Manhattan for twoCanon remotes. Huge 2 story store, walk into a madhouse. ask 1st person where are remotes, he directs me to an info center on 1st floor, after a wait she directs me to info desk on 2nd floor, who directs me to middle of store, up 3 steps to remotes. You then have to wait again for a salesperson. Salesperson gets my2 remotes, sends them back to 1st floor in B&H Bag, sends me back downstairs to pay, another line. After paying you get two big barcoded receipts, and get in another 20 person line to pick up your items. Oops cant find bag, 2nd person can't find bag, hundreds of bags, have to go to another line, Customer Service. Two people later they find my purchase. Had contact with 9 people, 45 minutes for a 3 minute point of sale purchase at a local camera store.
Never again.

Have you tried taking a black card, holding it in front of the lens
when the lights are on and off during the dark cycle. If you have the patience, and it sounds like you do, you can set your camera on bulb and by timing you could burn the Lighthouse and the night sky clearly into the sensor, try 8 minutes, white balance, if you have a Kelvin scale, full moon about 4000, ISO 100 or 200 depending on your camera. I'll post a picture, shot around 11:00 pm, cemetery, using only ambient light. 14mm lens, f4.5, 100 ISO, 4000K, about 10 minute exposure, Bulb setting, Canon remote control, about 100 feet from subject.
