Beautiful shots!

I had planned to relocate to Costa Rica this spring before the craziness settled in. You've made me homesick for the future.

Huh-oh, opinion time, conventional wisdom with W7 or W10 is to NOT use “hibernate.” Use “sleep” if you must. For my desktop, I set everything to stay alive unless I hit <window>-L and force it into lock screen. A few minutes later it, will take a nap. Also, if you are using ‘any’ anti-virus other than Windows default, get rid of it.

Conventional wisdom is frequently not. I'm sitting in my living room with 5 computers and not all behave the same. One in particular does what the OP said, if it goes to sleep it won't always wake up. I use 3 of my machines as DVRs, so it is critical that they activate themselves at specific times. The one that doesn't wake up has been set to hibernate and has worked like that flawlessly for over five years. The other 2 recorders sleep when not in use and I built 2 out of the 3.

If you'd like to question my building ability, before I retired I built and maintained corporate file, mail, SQL and Domain Control servers for the company as their CIO.

I use sleep and hibernate because, frankly, running full towers with 3 to 5 hard drives 24/7 is not very economical in terms of electricity.

My Dell Inspiron desktop is about six months old and has a quirk of occasionally going to sleep when not being used and than not waking up. Now it is happening once or twice a day. I have to force it off at the power button, wait a few minutes and power it back on. Sometimes this doesn't work and I have to uplug it at the power strip, wait a few minutes, than power it back up. Even bought a new surge protector. I contacted Dell on their chat room and spent an hour with a tech who ran several diagnostics and and updated all the drivers, BIOS etc. Still does it!! I am in the habit of leaving it on all day and shutting it down at days end. Now thinking I should shut it down when I'm going to be gone for a few hours or so.

The second issue is the mouse will freeze-up for about 5-10 seconds and can't be moved/clicked on.

Anyhow, now wondering if I'm getting some sort of electrical line interference in my house wiring that knocks off my computer? Anyone out there have an idea what may be my problem?

TIA

I've seen a number of computers that have this tendency, particularly with certain ASUS motherboards. Rather than setting the power options to SLEEP, switch to HIBERNATE. You will have a slower startup from hibernation, but I've experienced 100% reliability after the change.

I've gone crazy researching solutions and none of them have ever solved the problem regardless of Windows version. HIBERNATE always has worked.

I don't have a Photomic head, just a prism finder.

Well, shooting in manual with a digital camera starts you off with the advantage of the F Photomic. You DO have the option of basing exposure on your external light meter if you desire. Either way, it is up to YOU to decide each element of the exposure.

You can really go manual, forget your LunaPro, and take your old printed exposure guide from that roll of Velvia and learn to eyeball everything.

Think of it as picking up your trusty Nikon F with a Photomic head and using the available information to make the decisions necessary to make the picture you want to make using the basic functions of the camera.

I feel so much better after that, until I think about it.

But why think?

Your 70-200 should be fine. Based on yesterday's joint Blue Angels/Thunderbirds flyover in the NY area, all they do is fly over in diamond formation trailing smoke. There was no maneuvering or performance. It is not an airshow, if that's what you are thinking. If you happen to get a blue sky, a polarizer is the only thing you might want to enhance your shots.
