What I am after would be the equivalent of the pop up flash on my D300. No, it won't do everything, but that isn't what I want Bounce is a plus though, and completely auto function is what I want.
Hobby use only.
Thanks to both of you!
I've been taking photos for decades. I've rarely used flash and generally prefer not to, but there are times it would be nice to have the option available.
I absolutely love my Df, but one thing that is missing is an on camera flash.
My question is this. For very basic operation, such as auto fill flash, what would you suggest? I'm looking for integrated function such as I get with my D300 (using it's pop up flash).
I have a Yongnuo YN968N, which works, but I cannot get it to work "automatically" it seems that I may be setting it up wrong. It works fine in manual.
Comments?
I see an 850 in your future!
The same way I got the CPU data with my Nikkormat FTn. LOL I use a notepad an pencil. I'm usually not very interested in the EXIF data.

The Df definitely WILL meter accurately in center weighted or spot metering with ANY lens in stop-down mode, no need to enter anything in q menu, and no need for electrical or mechanical connection to the camera.
I didn't want to satart an argument, but I do it all the time.
Watch a few of the videos about cleaning or disassembly first. On my copy the lens block moves in and out as a complete unit, and infintiy is set at the factory by a couple of aluminum spacers. I was able to move the helicoid back enough to meet the requirements of the F mount by simply removing the spacers. That, plus the depth of the adapter ring is very close to infinity. (it actually was a touch beyond infinity.) It was a matter of trial and error. I understand that there are several versions of the lens though, and have only tried it on one. I wasn't too worried, since they are pretty inexpensive.
Good luck!

The Df doesn't work in the stop down method. If you do so it still works but give you wrong exposure.
I may be using the wrong terminology. See page 168 of the manual.

So you need that chip for metering?
No. It will meter just fine with any lens that mounts. If the lens doesn't have apeture coupling you need to use stopped down metering though. I have a Helios 44-2 2/58mm that I modified for infinity focus and adapted to F mount. I bought it primarily as a portrait lens, and rarely use it stopped down. The "bokeh" value disappears at smaller F stops. It has no CPU (yet) and even gives focus confirmation when focus is achieved. There is no coupling to the camera whatever.
I have that lens and use it on my Df. I think you will love it. I think I will add a "chip" primarily so that the camera knows what lens I have mounted without me going into the menu and telling it. I really enjoy ising old lenses on the Df.
I don't weish to "go back to film", but if I did I would start with something considerably smaller than an 8x10! I agree with ELNikkor. What size film will the enlargers you were given accept?
If no further interest, I will remove this on Monday and go to eBay.
Thanks!
I have a Pgriff1 with the tubes, apertures and objectives for 300mm f 5.6, 400mm f 5.6, and 600mm f8. They are currently mounted with an adapter for Nikon, but the adapter can be changed and almost any mount can be had. The original lens has a 39mm (Leica) mount. I have added a 39 to 42 adapter, a 42 mm focusing helicoid (to adjust infinity on each lens) and a 42 to Nikon adapter. The optics are all very good (9+) and everything works as it should. I just don't use it anymore. I am asking $250 including shipping in a flat rate box for the whole thing. The picture is of the unit with the 400 mm mounted. Plenty more picture are available if interested. The second picture (of the moon) was taken with the 600mm.
