We signed up for PSP last year along with LR. Both CC. Now my wife thinks and has had suggested to her that we look at Affinity as a replacement. I have just started feeling comfortable with Lightroom, and my wife and i both took an online class together for PSP last year. Just a quick look at reviews and comparisons online have left me a little confused. Obviously price is a huge factor. As an amateur photog I am not totally engrossed in the use of either PSP or LR. Sooo, just wondering how many have used both and those fellow hoggers that have, what are your thoughts...thanks ya'll...

PSP is the acronym for Corel Paint Shop Pro, which is not a subscription product.

I think you must mean PS or Adobe Photo Shop, since both LR and PS come together in the $10 a month subscription.

Why change? Don't listen to what someone else suggests that you do. If you are happy with what you have, keep it. Don't listen to what others think you should do.

Change would be to save money. Why pay for something you don't use that often?

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD!

Right on!! Hey, Hold on -- let me go take my meds and I'll be right back.

Ok. I'm back -- and on my soap box again now -- Folks -- if you don't like what Adobe is doing -- get educated and search out the alternatives...
Macphun Luminar
Corel Aftershot Pro 3
ACDSee Studio 2018
Capture One
Serif Affinity Photo
etc...

What Adobe is doing is seriously weak -- It would be ok if they gave you both purchase options -- but they don't.

Shame on you Adobe.

Ok-- Done yelling at the cloud for now.

Yes -- the pixel shift feature is limited to a few uses -- like product and architectural photography -- and useful for some macro photography -- anything that doesn't move. But yes -- not that useful for landscape photography -- because of wind, moving water, clouds, etc...

Although you already have the 42 mega pixel sensor (with incredible dynamic range) -- and an incredible assortment of native lenses for landscape photography. So overall, an incredible landscape camera

I'm not sure it would get much landscape use. There's always some sort of motion, whether it's wind blowing plants, ocean, streams, clouds, etc. Maybe the Grand Canyon on a cloudless day. :)

Not everyone resists the newer technology! And it makes sense for many to switch from Adobe CC - especially if they don't use PS CC! The total bundle is what makes it worth it to me, at least for now...

This has nothing to do with technology. It's purely about the business model. Adobe is pretty much going the route -- where they choose to offer their software only via the subscription business model (now the only product they offer standalone is Photoshop Elements).

I really have no issue with anyone going the Adobe route. I just feel it's my duty to educate people on the pros and cons of the subscription business model. Adobe is not a bad route to go if you heavily use the software (i.e. you use it enough to justify the $10 a month fee). Where it isn't -- is someone who maybe uses the software once or twice a month -- why pay $10 a month when you only use the software once or twice a month? I see so many people that are in this enthusiast -- barely use the software mode -- and most of the time I help them either to move to Photoshop Elements or go to a competitive alternative. Many, many people have thanked me for helping them.

Where the Sony a9 was aimed squarely to stand shoulder to shoulder with Canon and Nikon's sport flagships -- the Sony a7rIII is meant to go head to head with Canon and Nikon's professional wedding/event/portrait cameras the Canon 5DMIV and the Nikon D850. To this end -- Sony has done an incredible job. They listened to their customer -- this camera is really going to do well in the largest professional market segment: wedding/event/portrait. And note, there is no lack of native glass for the Sony a7rIII for the wedding/event segment. These days pretty much the native glass argument is only for sports photography, i.e. lack of native super telephotos on Sony's part -- and they are working on bridging that gap -- Sony GM 400mm f2.8 has now been announced for Summer 2018.

Two cards slots -- incredible battery life, blazing fast auto focus, 10 fps (silent shooting), the same EVF that the a9 has, wicked eye auto focus... What's not to like.

Hmm.. I remember two years ago (actually even 1 year ago) when some DSLR photographers said mirrorless would never match DSLRs (especially with re: to autofocus speed). Boy did those statements prove false.

I'm happy with my a99II.
The weight doesn't seem to bather me.
I don't take Movies at all so the improvements there don't interest me.
Also I have no desire to change lens mounts.
What I have is keeping me happy.

The Sony a99II is a fantastic camera. If you have some decent A-mount lenses you are definitely good where you are.

Weather Proofing is just a "feature" that has a certain manufacturing cost associated with it.

You will see some inexpensive cameras with weather proofing (where weather proofing is one of their features) -- but believe me you're paying for it.

Let's for example say it costs $25 in manufacturing cost to WP a camera (this is just an example -- I don't know what this incremental cost is). To make a profit the manufacturer will have to increase the price 2-3x to make up for that cost and insure that feature is not unprofitable -- which means that they would have to increase the cost of every camera with WP by lets say $50 to $75.

Now is everyone willing to pay that extra WP cost? The answer some would and some won't (it depends on how much you value WP as a feature) -- with this increase being more palatable the more expensive the cameras is.

I posted this as soon as I got the email notification from the website "The New Camera." I have discovered there were two other posts besides mine on this camera. I personally didn't see the other Posts. It shows I was not the only one anticipating the news of this camera. Kinda like the Nikon D850 anticipation. Thanks for the additional link. It's a good article. And I'll read the other Posts as well.

Yes -- this is newsworthy enough that it probably should have been posted to the primary UHH thread.

I follow Sony alpha Rumors site every day -- so I knew the announcement was going to happen at 10am Eastern today (Sony's press release announcement) and sure enough saw the announcement at 10am-ish Eastern today.

Tons of news because they invited tons of press, YouTubers, professional photographers, etc... to the event, and the press had already gotten an early look. So the flood gates opened at 10am this morning.

Really looked forward to this -- the Sony a9 is amazing -- but just too pricey -- this camera only has a few less things that the a9 has with a much more palatable price. Sony has really listened to their customers. This is a fantastic offering!

Someone already posted this announcement.

Release date is November 2017, price is around $3,200 (body only).

Plenty of data already on the Internet now -- prewritten and reviews/data released as soon as Sony held the press conference this morning. Some good YouTube videos already available as well.

B&H has a $3,198 price tag on the III body only. That takes me off the stage. Ta ta.

Yes -- it's meant to squarely compete against the professional go-to wedding/event photographer cameras like the Canon 5D mark IV and the Nikon D810 and Nikon D850 -- which are in the same price range for the body only.

It has the 2 card slots and great battery life (uses the a9 battery) so perfect for the largest professional market segment -- which is the wedding/event photography market.

Sony has answered every concern that Wedding/Event photographers had -- which were mainly 2 card slots and battery life. No more concerns for this segment -- and it is a fantastic camera.

Sweet!!

Current dpreview has a review of the III

Tons of stuff out now. They had the press conference at 10am Eastern today -- and tons of stuff were written before hand, and finally allowed to be released once the press conference announced the a7rIII.

Several YouTube videos out now as well. Just do a search for the Sony a7rIII.

Will be a good time to pick up a used A7rII. The improved tracking and touch screen are tempting...However I think I will wait a year or so and get a used III when the IV comes out.

You also get the two card slots, improved evf, much faster autofocus, and 2X battery life.

But I hear you -- I've seen the A7rII for as low as $2,400 -- so that is an incredible deal as well!

Sony has hit this out of he park!
