With my D500, I have two zoon lenses. The 16-85 is the one I use 95% of the time. Yes, I know, I am using a F lens on a D body. But it works !
Rodeo;
CR publishes their opinions as a result of inexperienced testing staff.
User feedback would be much more reliable. Take a look at the Tires Plus website …. all user reviews.
It is human nature for people to want to read about opinions, even if wrong, because of laziness. Consumer Reports should get user feedback and print that result, not depend on their inexperienced reviewers.
Cellphone pics are just fine for most people. However, as serious amateurs, let's not get confused and lower our standards.
Re CR; They are simply not accurate and fair in my opinion. You do not need to agree.
Also, there can be two almost identical products, one made in Germany, the other in China. Because the Chinese one is less expensive to buy, they favor it. I do not agree with weighed formulas they seem to use.
I have about 30 empty carousel (80 and 140) trays and anyone can have them for free if they wish to pick up in SE Wisc. I also have four projectors for sale with dissolve hardware. Thanks. 414-550-6100. Jim.
Who is kidding who here.
Consumer Reports is a scam which some niaive people fall for. CR might be are ok for reviewing vacuum cleaners and laundry soap, but not even close to being reliable for such things as automobiles, large appliances, AND cameras. Shame on CR for their sloppy inaccuracies. Sure … phone megapix count is increasing, but how can a lens half the size of a pea be compared to a fine camera lens?
Its the quality of the glass folks, not the pixils. !!!
Leave the phone pics for the millennials taking selfies and baby pictures. We are professionals and serious amateurs with standards in photography quality which should not be compromised. (My second camera is a 14-yr-old pocket Leica which still takes far better quality pics than my wife's new smartphone.)

Did not know about the D 500 discontinued. Any reason known? Replaced with something?
THE D500 HAS INCREDIBLE RESULTS IN LOW LIGHT. YOU WILL BE PLEASED.
As professionals and serious amateurs of photography on this blog, I can't imagine an $80.00 piece of shirt-pocket plastic from China being very satisfying to even the least of our standards as photography enthusiests. Instead, take your wife (or husband) out to a $80.00 steak dinner and as mentioned earlier put your smarty phone in a ziplock. The Korean pea-sized lens glass will be better.
$80.00 from China? You get what you pay for; can't imagine the photo quality is any good.
Put you phone in a ziplock instead.
Olympus has the best ratings for a "tough" camera. Several models. Quality is excellent, but prepare for $300 plus. Great for the beach because sand is tough on expensive DLSR's.
