have not had the opportunity to shoot with a zoom lens, I was reading the list for the zoom lens and the other article 5 reasons why prime lenses are better and the bullets made me think id want a prime over the zoom. Being new to photography my next lens was going to be a zoom because I've been in many situations where i'm just not close enough to my subject to get the shot that I wanted. Still for the price that I've seen i'll still end up getting the zoom.

The photo taken and then what it looks like on the print. I've never seen a metallic print before.

I took this pictured back in 2003 with a 5MP HP PhotoSmart C935. It was a lucky shot as I had no clue what I was doing. My wife and I were walking the beach and it was just a beautiful sight to see. I touched it up a little bit, but thought it turned out good.

Not sure if these settings on this camera will help anyone, but I thought id share them

f-stop - f/5
exposure time - 1/2083
Iso - 100
aperture mode
centered weighed

Larry great post, thanks for sharing the prep work and camera settings. As everyone else has said, your shot is really good. The Heron is very sharp!

Larrie, for me it's more of a personal preference. I like the way the pictures turn out with Photomatix Pro.

Thanks carlysue funny how you start to just snap and you end up with a purpose, today was just an impromptu shoot, but turned into a theme for me :)

Was at the school playground with the kids today and one thing sort of stuck out. I would ask the kids to do something and at first I got the typical "Dad, I can't". Eventually they ended up doing it which I caught on camera, thus the theme perseverance.

PaulaBrady, I'm not an expert but since your asking for some input I'll share my 2 cents :) The first thing that sticks out to me is that I feel like it's busy and takes away from the model. Between the dress and the background it sort of takes away from her. Her complexion and hair blend in a little with the wall. That's just one person's perspective, but that doesn't mean it's a bad picture. I think your lighting looks good I don't see any shadows or dark spots on your subject.

carlysue, image #3 is amazing. It's pretty cool how you were able to capture the subject and turn it into art, I would have seen it as just what it was. Nice work.
