Come on Boberic. For me, that decision would be easier than which SD card to use today.
I can ALWAYS do with one less mouth to feed.
BUT........, unless you have VERY highly developed cooking, cleaning and washing skills, your wife is indispensable!!

And now the reply from all of the female members of the forum is.........

Wait a minute. This is a photo forum. You purport yourself to be a photographer? What kind of a photographer are you? Why on Earth are you even considering making a decision to feed your family or to maintain your prized legacy photo gear? Your family will just have to make do with less. If you turn off the air conditioning, only eat 1 meal per day and use candles, you will have much more $ for whats really important.

And ditch the phones and write a lot of letters!

I have been using the same memory card for over a year w/o trouble: an Ultra 16GB SanDisk. It was always in my camera. (I downloaded photos from camera to computer, then reformatted the memory card to clear it. A couple of months ago, I took it out in order to put a friend's memory card in my camera and download her photos to my computer. Then I replaced my memory card. Since then, after taking photos: Once, my camera showed zero photos recorded. A day later they were there again. Also, a couple of times no photos showed up for downloading, and again later, there they were again.
I think it's time to toss this memory card.
Question: How long is "normal" for memory card use?
Question: I have more memory cards that I bought over a year ago but haven't used. If unused, are they going to be ok, or are they like batteries and lose their potency over time?
I have been using the same memory card for over a ... (show quote)

Have you tried to recover the files using Pandora or another recovery utility? If you can recover the photos, I suggest you then clean the contacts and re-format. Otherwise try a new card and see if the problem persists. Happened to me one time and it turned out to be the beginning of the dreaded "err" message on the d7000!! Hope it's just a card.

I looked at a d7100 too. I have had a d7000 for over 2 years now (up from a d3000) and it still does what I need it to do. Ask yourself how "big" a photo are you going to print, do I need all of the extra bells and whistles, etc? IMHO there isn't that much difference. Rent one for a week or look to buy a used one.

I have a Nikon d7000 and d3. One uses sd (7000) cards and the other cf (d3). I bought a "Komputer Bay" sd to cf adaptor from B&H and use some of the many sd cards I already have in my d3. No problems to report after about 3 months of heavy raw and jpeg shooting. The sd cards are Lexar class 10 600x and will keep up with a 9 or 11 frames/second on the d3 when I use them in the cf adaptor. Hope this helps.

I have been using a Canon G11 for a couple of years and I thought I would step up a little. I found a Nikon D200 at a good price and thought I would give it a go.
Did I buy a dog or is this a decent camera, even though it is 8years old.

I just bought a used D3-oldy but goody. It works for the indoor sports photography that I seem to be doing a lot of lately. I still use my d7000 and FE (FILM omg) for most other types of shooting. If the d200 works for the pictures you like, then you got a GREAT deal.

What is a good program for trying to retrieve pictures from a corrupted camera card?

I've used Pandora Recovery with success twice now. Free program too!

I used a d7000 for basketball, hockey and lacrosse games for income. I then upgraded to a used d3 and was impressed with the focus speed and frames/second difference in the d3. The quality of the images of the d3 at 3200 ISO was better than the d7000 at the indoor events--all raw photos of course. Unless you are using a 300 or 400mm lens, consider the crop implications also. That's where the d3 shines. Consider a used d3 or a refurbed d7000 or d7100 and don't forget the 2.8 glass you WILL need indoors!

I bought the Vello grip for a d7000 and it works exactly the way it was intended. I did buy a Nikon battery for this grip but have used 3rd party batteries in my d3000 with success. Try the "other" brand. Buy it from Adorama or B&H and if it's not what you want, bite the bullet and trade back for the Nikon grip.

Of all the battery grips out there which on do you guys have experience with and reccommend? I already have 2 EL-15 batteries. I just would like a better grip when shooting vertically.

Prices from B&H are:

Bower $60.95 comes with a EL-15A battery
Vello $69.95
Hahnel $129.00
Nikon $211
I bought the Cello unit 6 months ago and the only issue was why didn't' I buy it sooner.

I have purchased a Nikon 3000 and 7000 camera bodies plus 5 lenses in the last 3 years. Every one of them was a refurbished unit and I have had no problems at all. Go for it!
