there lots of videos there or what. Certainly they aren't all yours, or are they?

Yes Jim, they are all my videos. However, I am not always "on camera". I do volunteer my camera work and post processing work (if they are on a subject in which I'm interested). The series of eight videos titled "Sowing Good Gospel Seeds" was created and narrated by a friend of mine. He and I understand, that most people will feel (after seeing/hearing the rather poor job he did speaking/reading his notes, etc.) that "if he can share, I can also"! :-)

If any of the videos at www.assoc.com can be helpful to you, please use any full video, part of a video, or all videos. I don't even need 'credit'.

Thanks also for your positive comments.

I would also be a newbie to drone piloting.

Do not make the same mistake that I recently made with my first-ever quad copter. I practiced flying (Syma $69 model) for for two days. The first day I used the default settings. Then I read the included literature mentioned "Headless mode". I asked a member of our local model aircraft flying club who owned a more expensive (and older) Syma what "Headless" meant? He didn't know. We both conferred with another member of the model flying club. The only conclusion we could come up with was "Beginners setting" (don't need to use our head). ;-)

My second time out (alone) I turned on "Headless mode". It immediately took off at full throttle. I pulled the throttle back instantly, but it was going to fast that I only heard the sound of it going out of my sound and sight 'range'. Took a friend out a couple of hours later to look for the light that is shown when it's battery is not completely dead. After an hour we gave up. I've looked for it many times since in the rolling hills of the high desert. But it is gone.

I wrote to the Syma company telling them of my experience and suggested to reword the manual to make more 'sense' of "Headless Mode". Didn't even get a response. Now I still "own" the LED control panel, HD camera/video that is made to fit below the copter, spare parts and the original box. ;-(

The first 'thing' that I learned when I jumped into video a few years ago was that the AUDIO was at least of equal importance to the video. I read about a 2 or 4 year graduating video class. Their final exam was to divide up into two groups. The first group was to not make any video mistakes. But, just select "so so" background music. The other half of the class was to purposely make every video mistake they were taught never to make (tilt the horizon, focus on everything in the clip: not just the most important 'subject', zoom while 'filming', and many many more). But they were to select background music that pulled the audience in the 'direction' the assignment was to 'move' the audience. That college brought in audience after audience. No one from the 'crappy video' left early. BUT, people just couldn't stay for the perfect video. The music keep them interested from scene to scene.

The first book that I purchased was the least expensive. I highly recommend it: "How to Shoot Video that Doesn't Suck" by Steve Stockman. I looking for a good How To Write a "story line" (screenplay) book. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Best wishes to you. You will have fun! Sam
I can't address the video capabilities but ask me in a few months because I fully intend to get more involved in video. /quote]
I got 'into' video a few years ago and was shocked on how important "other things" (than good quality video shots) are. I purchased two or three books about video and the least expensive of all of them was the most informative for me. The title is: "Shoot Video that Doesn't Suck". It is written by Steve Stockman. Have fun expanding your 'story telling' using video. PS I don't get a commission for book sales. ;-)

I tried all the suggestions I found online, even using some dielectric grease. Nothing will keep it working for more than a few minutes.

I'm a volunteer in our 184 site RV Resort that takes care of telephone, TV and Internet connects. Years ago I purchased my own "Electronic Cleaner" in a 11 oz spray can. My fellow 'committee' members laughed at me when I said it fixed over 75% of "poor connection" problems that I 'serviced'. They don't laugh anymore and our park now purchases this cleaner by the case!

I hope that you will be one of the 75% when it does correct your problem.

Does anyone have any experience as to the quality of stills taken from the movie frames of the higher quality 4K or HD cameras today?

I've done this a couple of times with my HD (1080P) video camera. This one was from this short fireworks video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK6KXbwKqFE S
I couldn't find one I took from the San Diego VA parking lot when I wanted to 'frame' a moving vehicle. Sorry. Hope you get better samples.
After we crossed the USA/Canadian border we were able to purchase 100% Deet. If that is available, you have something 'additional' to consider.

MRT6800 I 'guess' that you will have a great time no matter where you travel. Since our trip in approx 2005 things may have changed things. But, watch this video to see the things we enjoyed. While the photography isn't all that good, it still brings back good memories to us. :-)

ceallachain, I'd like to emphasize the suggestion of GENNorkus. He suggested you consider joining/establishing a photo club. This short video will give you an idea of the advantages of participating in a photo club.

I hope that your Hummers are more 'sharing' than those in Smith River, CA! Our feeder, like yours, has four feeding stations. But most of the time only one bird feeds (she/he) chases the others that try to land away. :-(

AJ, I'm the least 'learned' on this discussion group. But, I was distracted by the sign in the first photo. So, I took it out in the least expensive version of Photoshop (Elements). Looks like I forgot to keep the colors as beautiful as they were in the original photo. I learning. :-(

wanting to start video taping the grand kids.

Once you start 'digging in' to what is most important in making videos that others will actually watch, you will find that the sound quality is at least equal to the video quality. Make certain that you can connect a remote mike or a "voice recorder" with a preamp that can hook up to your camcorder. That will make a big difference. You can go a little less expensive using a separate voice recorder, but you will spend a lot of time in Post Processing syncing the sound.

I've only been in the video side of things for a couple of years, but if you want to correspond privately, let me know.

Is it possible to print the first frame from a video clip with good results.

Just remember that most cameras that take video limit their pixel count on each frame to 1920 x 1080 pixels. While this is High Def (but even including 4K) that is a long way from any camera's pixel count used for printing on paper/material.
