This guy makes an incredible racket in the trees near our house - here he has some pine nuts that he's devouring ... :)
even at 1/1600 and flash it's hard to 'freeze' those flappers ... and I could swear they KNOW when I am 'armed' with my camera ... cause they make themselves quite scarce :)
Just after the boat launch to Pitt lake I spotted these 2 nesting Osprey ... trying to prevent from beaching the boat did not afford me the best opportunity for the shot ... a bit dark - but keepers I think.
thanks for looking
cheers
Phil

Excellent actions shots, Phil! Tubing is so much fun, isn't it? Did you try it, too?
yup - sure did - more difficult to put air between the tube and water - but entirely possible :) ... we made an awesome video - we watch and laugh and laugh as the 'old man' (moi) gets tossed off the tube :) ... cheers thanks for the comments
Hope you like these - with 100-400L and a keen daughter :)
Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments - and info (re: Ospreys) - I am not a knowledgeable birder :) ... (but I know what an eagle is :) )
My problems - I was NOT ready - focus method was wrong, I was in aperture priority instead of manual, speed was tooooo slow, IS should have been off, but the biggie - the boat was totally unsteady and the lens was waaaay to heavy for handheld ... BUT - next time I will be ready :) ... and there are going to be many next times (I hope) cheers Phil :)
After we finished up crabbing today - feeding the remainder of the chicken to the seagulls - literally out of the blue came this eagle - he was literally no more than 5 feet away from us at times - dive bombing the gulls and trying to grab some chicken ... then steered the boat up to where he was perched watching ... and on the way home discovered a nest with some babes in it - I guess feeling a bit hungry ... man I love living in Vancouver ...

100-400 is one of my favorite lens. Your photo's being cropped proves how good you and this lens are. Nice work.
thank you Les ... I have only had this lens for a month or so - and it has opened up a world of possibilities for me ... I have always been constrained by my 70-200 :)

thanks
We walk our dogs regularly at a local man-made lake (LaFarge lake) - it is unusual to see eagles here ... anyway, I spotted these two fellas resting in the trees about a gazillion feet away from me ... so I pulled out my trusty ole 100-400 - but even at 400 they were miles away (see pull-back pic ... #3) - but still managed a fair crop ... 1/1000 ISO500 f6.3 ... waited and waited for them to start swooping into the lake for some fish ... but they wouldn't oblige - so a couple hours later we kept on walking ... and had to be satisfied with what I got ... :) cheers Phil
Nuts were put out - camera at the ready ... my guy started to grab some peanuts - and then a crow started squawking so he raises himself up on tippy toes to make sure the crow was nowhere near whilst he had his fill ... then he tried to steal my wedding ring I had placed on the railing ... cheeky sod :)
Thank you all for your wonderful feedback - I feel truly so lucky ... that I decided to take my camera on this day and that this fella gave me such a showing ... from a different angle framed between the branches ... hope you enjoy ... Phil
Spotted this fella on my bike ride on Sunday. Managed to get up fairly close - 5D Mk2 100-400 f5.6L f5.6 ISO500 1/100 ... managed to get a few shots off before some kids spooked him.
