Do remember that there is a healthy fine for touching those ponies, and as pointed out about they do bite, cameras and people. Yeah, get close but not too close. Great shots, by the way.

I guess that's why they say don't feed wild animals.

Try B&H or Amazon and check Godox. Three manual TT600 flashes with a built-in receiver and transmitter and a separate transmitter for the camera just $241. I use this system and it works well. Many different flashes available and they all work with the same transmitter/receiver system.

No one has mentioned Strobist

Startupper right by clicking Lighting 101 when you finish there is lighting 102 and 103. David Hobby writes this and he knows what he's talking about.

Cameras don’t take photographs, people do. You can do this and, odds are, you’ll get some very good images out of it.

This was the advice I would have given if rjaywallace hadn't beat me to it. Wonderful photographs can be made with almost any camera. Expensive cameras are tougher, more likely to accept water splashes, can use faster shutter speeds, have larger apertures, and a few other benefits, none of which are necessary for most photos.

Out of the list "foot-feed", I think I may have heard, the rest were daily heard words. Supper, in my mind, I defined as the evening meal on a farm where "dinner" was the main meal served at noon because of the hard-working farmers and hired-hands. In the city, where I lived, dinner was still the main meal but was served in the evening and lunch was the noon repast. Thanks for the memories, which may make you Bob Hope.

My #1 is unlevel horizons. This is an easily corrected problem. I consider it a sign of laziness to post a photo that is definitely askew.

Not afraid to ask. Had my first meeting in Jan. and only meet once a month. Thought I could figure it out on my own, I thought this site would give me more ideas (which it has, thanks to all !) I though asking questions here was part of why this site was for.

Yes, this site is for asking questions, no problem there. I was just surprised that you had been in a room full of photographers and then asked the question here. I was just trying to give you a little poke, just for fun.

Nothing wrong with the answers here and absolutely nothing wrong with asking the question here. But you just joined a "camera club" with members who do this for every meeting and whom you see in person and would love to help you. Don't be afraid to ask in person.

This is a puzzling discussion. The diopter adjustment allows you to essentially adjust the sharpness of the ground glass at the bottom of the pentaprism. The lens will make no difference whatsoever. My diopter adjustment will lock, but I wonder if some shooters hold the camera in such a way as to accidentally move the adjustment. I'm not an expert in the field but changing the lens making a difference in the diopter adjustment makes no sense at all.

I'm with bratliff. I set my Nikon D700 to Continous High and hold the shutter button down. The camera knows how many bracketed shots are called for and will take that many shots and quit. On occasions where I have accidentally left bracketing on I get strange exposures with no apparent cause. Until, of course, I notice that bracketing has been left on.

I ordered a Nikon D850 from B&H on Oct. 18. It is listed as back ordered. This is not a surprise, nor is it a complaint. I am just wondering if anyone has information as to how fast these are being produced and any estimate of when it might be delivered? In the meantime, my D700 is working fine.

Wein Safe-sync. There are several versions of this depending on how you want to connect your flash to the camera.

I didn't see any mention of lenses. The sun and the moon have the same apparent size from the earth and that size is very small. Photos of the eclipse that show much detail are usually taken with the camera connected to an astronomical telescope. I have taken reasonable moon shots with a 200mm lens and a 1.7 teleconverter making it the equivalent of a 340 mm lens. Those were "reasonable" and were cropped to show better detail. With most normal lenses the sun and moon appear as tiny over-exposed dots. Most bad photos are the fault of the photographer but here is an example where the equipment really counts.

Ok, I'm old enough (66) to remember "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco", but your reference is ringing no bells in my "rememory". Neither had I ever heard the reference to Truman. Me thinks this may have a founding WWII? I never heard Dad (a navy vet) use the phrase. Being a curious bugger, I would like to know. Send me a PM if you don't want to do a public post, please this will drive me crazy.

We are getting away from the OPs question but it's fun. I'm 74 and I could not tell you where the Truman reference came from. My dad died when I was 15 and not yet interested in politics. However, the first political cartoon I remember seeing my dad had cut from a local (St. Louis, MO) newspaper and posted somewhere in the house. It was a picture of Truman wearing a crown that had slipped down his head until it covered his eyes and the caption read "Who turned out the lights?" I have no idea what event or idea it referred to but is a very strong memory from childhood and could give you an idea of my dad's opinion of Truman. Also, I remember the "loose straps" reference from a young age but old enough to laugh at it.
