Used to call them "dust Devils" back in the late '40's and 50's. See them almost every summer over hot dusty fields. Neat photo, can't recall seeing one that tall!
It got up there, that's great! I'd love to have been a passenger, but how did they get it back down? I've driven enough mountain roads to know going up is not as hairy as coming back down.
Please go to a good directory and read all the definitions of the word "Congress". I believe the one concerning a group of baboons fits nicely. However, look in the mirror, who reelects these clowns? Over and over. Term limits would never pass, however an informed and active voting population can impose term limits at the ballot box.
Yep, remember the oil rack, but the saw is what really brings back the memories. Worked with a neighbor cutting lumber on one when I was about ten, powered by his tractor.
Check out the temps in Anchorage AK, Heat wave up there compared to the lower 48

Don, is "74-74" a typo? Or was it just winter for 12 months that year?
Opps! Gotta remember to proof read. Lets try 74-75 OK? I'll blame it on the +6 degrees here this morning.
Anchorage Ak, winter of 74-74. Two weeks of a temp inversion and I walked to work (15 minutes) -45 as I went out the door.
I was stationed at the Air Force hospital at Elmendorf AFB (Anchorage). Got there in Aug. In Sep the radio stations were saying each morning "No termination dust yet, folks" Bit of a puzzle but was to stubborn to ask anyone what they were talking about. One morning late in Sep the announcement was "Termination dust out there folks!" I looked out the window and saw it. Looked just like these photos. From the first dusting on top until it got down to the city was usually six weeks or so, The "dust" was boot top deep Halloween! Great photos, sure brings back fond memories of those three years.
Thanks so much for posting them, I really enjoy them.
Perhaps if law enforcement was practiced like the law is written, we would not be forced to buy a 1"square chip wrapped in one foot of plastic and cardboard in order to cut down on shoplifting. Etc, etc,
Now that Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, I want to be among the first to wish each and every UHH'er
Merry Christmas!
