Rex is right. I was wrong in saying it was Red Cloud. I love the history of the Native American people.

I believe # 2 is Red Cloud of the Oglala Tetons (Sioux). For those interested check out the book "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown. Great book from Natives point of view. One quote from the book says it all...."They made us many promises, more than I can remember, but they never kept but one; they promised to take our land, and they took it."

I had in my mind all along that it was some kind of reflection from the sky. I have not had any problems with color except with one with a lot of blue sky and something in the foreground. Thanks to everyone for the input. Many things to consider and I will watch my setting a little closer. I seem to have better shots if I leave WB on auto, when I change it seems like I do not get the color right.

Looks exactly like mine. Considering what others have said, what was you WB set at? What was your picture control set on?
My WB was sunshine (I usually have mine set on auto) and have picture control set on vivid. I think I will go back to auto on the WB,

Camera is set on vivid. I usually have it set there. Took some shots yesterday and tried to duplicate the others. They turned out fine, no blue cast to background, but it was somewhat cloudy.

These are straight out of camera, no post processing except to crop. If it is chromatic abberation as johnskesuggested why would it not show up in other shots? I have other shots taken the same day
that are fine. The only shots that this seems to show up in are ones with a lot of sky and small details like tree branches.

This is first time posting, I hope it works.I have a question about a couple of pictures taken recently. Taken with Nikon D3100, 18-55
kit lens. If you notice the tree branches in background are blue. Is this just a reflection from the sky? I have noticed the same thing on others, but they are the same type of photos with a blue sky. Greatly appreciate ideas or suggestions.

I am planning a trip to Arches National Park in Utah and have some question about WB. I usually us auto White balance and have been satisfied with that but I have noticed that if I change to Sunny,Shade or cloudy it seems to get more color saturation. Any suggestions?

I have dealt with Jack's for several years. They are very knowledgeable, have some of the most informed people around. They will go out of their way to help. They are a little expensive but will work with you.

I am worried about the knobs and ball/mounting plate being broken if mishandled. I have been told when we were in Hawaii that you cannot have a lock on your baggage.

I am planning a trip and taking my tripod, any suggestions on how to pack it to prevent damage? Should I wrap the ball head separately?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome! I also have a D3100 an really like it. Outside of the normal lens I use a 70-300 VR for wildlife etc. I would recommend printing out the reference manual, it is much more helpful that the
user guide. Just go out and experiment with different settings and enjoy your camera, you will get better the more you shoot.
