Its not the medium you record to or the output method you desire. The content within your frame and the execution of your vision is all that matters. If only one person is moved by your work then it has spoken.

Hello, I am a professional photographer and occasionally I do use a polarizer. I dont use them a lot tho. One problem with polarizers is that they can give an un even sky depending on the angle to the sun. Polarizing filters basically cut down a glare on non metallic surfaces, thats why they work for darkening skies. Remember that polarizing filters work best at 90 degrees to the sun. For fall colors there is a filter called an enhancing filter that only enhances reds. These filters can have an effect on other colors tho giving a reddish hue especially in lighter areas. Singh Ray makes an enhancing filter that enhances across the color spectrum without any color hues. I only own one set of filters but I probably own 20 lenses of different sizes. By buying a single filter to fit the largest lens I own and using step down rings I can use one filter on any of my lenses and the only cost is for a step down ring, about 4 dollars. As far as UV filters, a rip off. I have never damaged a lens and I never use these these filters. They are usually made out of cheap glass and they can also have a detrimental effect on color. Check out the Singh Ray Gold and Blue polarizer, a very unusual filter. Its expensive but it can do amazing things to an otherwise dull image. Most of my shooting is without filters anyway, filters can be a crutch. The only other filter that I use is a graduated neutral density filter for bringing down the sky when its too bright. I use filters sparingly but I do use them once in a while. I still shoot a lot of B&W film so I use filters, mostly an orange filter for darkening sky just enough to separate the foreground and give the sky a little color without being overwhelming.

I am a professional photographer and printer located in Santa Monica California. I specialize in digital printing and I also specialize in silver B&W printing (my original love). I still shoot B&W film using a Mamiya RB 6x7 camera and I do a lot of my work using a nikon digital camera. I went into digital photography kicking and screaming but it didnt take long before the kicking and screaming turned to songs and poems.
