Now how about Feinstein and Reid?

Send them back home. I'm sure their people will be waiting for them …. with open nooses.

I look for that as well but how can you tell when the tip of his tail is hidden behind the branch?

In this case the tail extends well below it's feet. A sharpies tail would end above the lower branch.

I think you got some great feedback so far, so I'll just add a little story to this thread.

I too use the back focus technique. On one of my many hikes up the mountain, I bumped into another hiker at the top. I asked him to take a photo of me. He obliged, and later that night I realized my camera was setup for BBF; I forgot to tell the other hiker this. Needless to say, the shot was OOF. The moral of this story is: you will be the only one who takes sharp photos with your camera. :-)

If someone steals it, that might be an incentive to return it !! ??

So, if I understand this correctly, by using BBF if I'm trying to get a hawk or jet in flight if I hold down the BBF button while clicking photo's the subject will remain in focus even though it is moving quickly toward me or away?

In AI Servo - Yes. Other modes - No.

The tail is long and between a Coopers Hawk and a Sharp-sinned Hawk, I'm leaning toward a Sharp-shinned with pencil thin legs. :-D

This one is a cooper with a longer rounded tail feathers. A sharpie has shorter squared tail feathers.

Hi bigbear,

I assumed the "John Gerlach" you were referring to was the outdoor writer (fly fishing mostly) from Colorado. I guess I was wrong. Take care & ...

No … He and his wife are photographers. They have written books, but not about fishing.

Thanks Buddy !!
The first clip, as well as the moose kids, I think is the most relevant to wildlife issues.

Yes, and some 20 years ago it was Japan that was buying up the US economy. We need not to be so focused on China but focused on our own economy and rebuilding our own house.... China will have its own problems as their slave labor camps will not endure. China has a population of about 1.35 billion people, what many Americans don't realize is that a population similar in size to the US population lives comparatively the same economic status as does the American population, but the problem that remains is that means that about 1 billion of their people live in abject poverty, earning $20 to $50 for a weeks labor, often having to live on corporate plantations... this will not continue without civil unrest as the underclass in China is very large and significant...

We just need to focus and solve our problems, and our government needs to focus on securing some international trade treaties that will insure our access to minerals and raw materials that will allow us to compete. That is where China is a threat as they have secured mineral rights that almost insure a monopoly in some areas of high tech manufacturing while our government has sat idle simply doling out unemployment benefits.

I believe you are correct.

Did you ever listen to what she testified about or just accept Limbaugh's version? She was talking about birth control pills to regulate an uneven period, not for sex. And her concern was for a friend who had to get off the pill due to lack of insurance and had a hysterectomy.

That is what they said was the issue.
Liberals always blur the issues to make them sound different than they really are.

The true issue was for them to get their stuff at no cost to themselves but at taxpayer's expense.
So next time you hear the libs speak, ask yourself 'what is it that they are really saying?'

I have no idea who John Gerlach and his wife are, but I have successfully been using BBF for years now going back to the film days with a Canon EOS 1n.
In my view it's the only way to go for sports and wildlife action.

John and Barbara Gerlach are two of the best instructors that I have had. My wife and I spent more than a week in the UP with them. When they took us out shooting, they didn't take any of their own equipment out. Their objective was to get us familiar with our own gear and how it works. John is a Canon user and Barbara uses Nikon. So between them they know 80% of what is used. BBF is one of the techniques they spend a lot of time on so you understand how it is used in near all situations. I have been BBFing since and don't want to go back.
We are planning to meet with them again for one of their outings in their back yard which extends into Yosemite.
